Major League ⚾️💥

As pitchers in Major League Baseball, one of the most critical components of their offseason regimen is the last phase of their training, which involves power and speed.

At TRM / UAMS we had the pleasure of working with Jalen Beeks & Zach Jackson this offseason.

This phase helps them use the strength they have developed to generate power, which ties into their throwing to improve their timing and power. Additionally, this sports-specific movement improves their conditioning, making them stronger and more resilient on the mound.

As part of their offseason program, we started with a corrective phase, which helps to address any imbalances or weaknesses in their bodies.

After this phase, they move on to focus on strength training, gradually increasing the weight and resistance as they build their muscles.

Once they have built up their strength, they ramp up their throwing program and transition into a more power-focused phase, incorporating medicine balls, plyometrics, and other exercises that improve their power and explosiveness.

This phase is designed to enhance their athletic abilities and help them perform at their best when they step onto the mound.

Overall, Jalen and Zach are a great example of the dedication and hard work required to succeed in Major League Baseball. Through careful planning and a commitment to their offseason program, they are able to maintain peak physical and mental condition, allowing them to perform at their best during the season. Their use of medicine ball exercises and a sports-specific training approach is just one example of how modern baseball players are constantly pushing the limits of what is possible on the field.

Return To Sport Scenes 📸

As rehab gets into the later stages and return to sport starts ramping up, the discrepancy between rehab therapists and the approach begins to get vastly different.

At TRM / UAMS, we want to provide a true return to sport transition and begin to expose the athletes to the same and similar forces that they would be expected to face in their sport.

Fatigue. 😰
Intensity. 😤
Explosiveness. 💥
Controlled Forces. 💪

All of these things are VITAL when we are focusing on getting someone back to their sport.

Don’t get us wrong.. as we develop your plan specific to you and your needs, your therapy is going to be hard work.. but part of who we are is having fun while we’re doing it.

Let’s talk a little about Sports Psychology.

Sports psychology is the study of how psychological factors influence sports, athletic performance, exercise, and physical activity.

And despite the name, we strongly believe that sports psychology is beneficial for EVERYONE.

We could all benefit from working on our Mental Fitness.

There are a lot of characteristics that are important for us to achieve optimal performance and function to the best of our ability.

Self Belief
Bouncing back from setbacks
A desire to succeed.
Reacting to situations positively
Calm under pressure

These all contribute to our mental toughness!

An import aspect of sports psychology we deal with…

Is helping athletes recover and return to their sport after an injury.

An injury can EASILY lead to emotional reactions such as




and fear.

It’s important to learn to mentally cope with the recovery process to restore your confidence once you’re ready to return to sport.

So what we’re saying is that an often overlooked aspect of injuries and rehab are the state of your mind.

When in reality, your mentals are just as important as the your body is physically.

So don’t ignore it!

Acknowledge if something is wrong or

what you need to take that next step.

Seek help from those around you or a professional who can help you.

Train your mind as you train your body.

Most people only ever see athletes during competitions.. but to GET there is something only athletes can relate to.

Your body is your career.
Your mental fitness is your career.

The emotional roller coaster of the highs and lows of not just competing but the toll your body takes within that is something we understand.

We had a BLAST getting together with over lunch and discussing a wide range of topics — specifically looking into and discussing the way things have always been done versus new literature that is pushing the envelope from surgery to rehab.

One thing that sets a great foundation for the Razorback Sports Medical team and our team at TRM / UAMS, is that no matter what, the athlete remains at the center of our focus.

From competing at a high level, to training, to rehab, to surgery & post operative, everything we do is centered around what is best for that athlete, long term post collegiate career and short term returning to sport.

We love getting together and discussing these things as we continually push ourselves to get better and better!
