Antietam, 09/18/26
It is always a blast when Josh and Jeff come up to fish. Listening to these two all day keeps ya laughing. Josh and I have been fishing together since he met me in 2012. Now his buddy Jeff comes with him when he is not guiding for Great Feathers. We started around 8AM and Josh said enough by 2:30. I think all three of us wanted to get out of our waders. It was so muggy with the unusual weather we had today. The water was low, clear and 63 degrees giving the humidity the night before. Plenty of morning tricos, but very few rising trout. Josh and Jeff set up two rods a piece and they changed tactics over the entire day. We had to work for them, but in the end, it was an outstanding day. We saw plenty over 20 inches, but the sun had them on “High Alert” and glued to the bottom. We landed nothing under 13 inches. Most were 14 to 17 inches. They missed just under as many as they landed and we netted, 7 rainbows and 4 browns. That is crazy good giving the tough weather conditions.

Yellow Breeches/Mountain Creek, 09/15/26
It was a fun day with Chris and much better weather. We tried this in the spring when presumed rain showers turned into torrential downpours. We started at 8AM and it was a chilly 46 degrees. By noon it was around 73 under sunny skies. Both the Yellow Breeches & Mountain Creek streams are low and clear. They are both 55 to 60 degrees in temperature. Not much was hatching, but a few trout were rising. Pretty easy day for me since Chris in a guide/instructor for Project Healing waters. He just wanted to see new water to visit. We switched off and on between nymphs and dry/droppers. It was time consuming to do the changes so we both decided to roll with dry/droppers. The fishing was a challenge with the low and clear water. Still, Chris missed several and he landed a couple of small browns on both streams.

Another fun day with Bill, Dave and Bill at FVFD We cooked off 400lbs of chicken for our famous chickwn corn soup. Just under 9 hours we have 32 tubs of broth.
Hope you attend the Oct. 2nd-4th 2026 FVFD fall festival. Great food and plenty to do.

Antietam, 06/12/26
What a fun educational day I had with father and son, Wayne and John. Wayne has not fly fished in 30 years, John had never seen a fly rod. Well, they had a great time on the water. We fished from 8AM till just after noon. The water is clear and low. It is holding a great temp. of 60-62. Nothing was really hatching. I spent most of the morning with John and taught Wayne some new stuff as well. We fished nymphs off indicators. We got things moving and the plan came together smashingly. They combined for 6, 12-14 inch beautiful browns, two smallmouth and a huge 21 inch sucker. So John learned how to fight a hard fighting big fish. They both had a great time and as Wayne said, “ I taught him so much, he hopes to remember most of it.”
The bite is back on. The water temperatures are perfect and our wild browns are feeding and starting to move for the spawn. Don’t miss out for your “Red October” brown trout hunt.

Antietam, 08/27/26
So, Jerry and I met around 9AM for what we thought would be a work morning. Wanted to weedwack and clean the trails ready for upcoming trips. Well, there was not that much to do. What does the retired Antietam guide and current head Antietam guide do on their day off? Well, lets fish for 90 minutes. So, we set up our T&T Contacts with single nymphs and hit a few holes. The water is clear and 2.2’. The lowest it gets. The stream is still holding at 65 degrees and Red Run is around 61. Nothing was hatching, but a few small browns sipping off the surface. We both figured it was about time we get to say, “Welcome to Antietam” to ourselves. Jerry scored his first. I grabbed my net and he put to my net a heavy mid-teen brown. We thought I had one with the fight, but it was only 12 inches. A few cast later, I got mine. Jerry grabbed his net and I also got a heavy wild brown. It was a great time hanging out together. I still have some September and October dates available. The fishing is great. You don’t want to miss out before ”No fish November” comes. We shut it down for spawning.

Antietam, 07/23/26
Man so great to be back on the water with Larry and his grandson Tony. Tony has never fly fished and God praise Larry because he sacrifices his time so I always focus on his grandkids. They came in the day before and fished till 9PM. Larry got him up to speed on a few things. I met them at 7:45AM and we fished to just after 12. I have cool water and active trout. We are at summertime low flow, but water was clear and only 63 degrees. Red Run is clear and 61 degrees with rising trout. Still nymphing on Antietam and we did very well for late July. I worked with Tony and he did great but is was as always, too slow on the set. He had a nice rainbow, very nice brown on for a second. Then I had the net ready on a big brown, easily 18+, but he lowered the rod and the slack line let to a lost trout. Larry did get a nice 16 inch brown in my net and lost a 18+ one as well.
It was a great morning for teaching yet another future fly fisherman. If your wanting a quick summer trout trip, I have dates and water to be fished. Morning 1/2 days are the way to go till fall.

Antietam, 07/09/26
Finally, back on the water after moving some trips. Plus what a better place to be. Jeff and I fished from 7:30AM until 11:30AM. It was quite the muggy 72 degree start under cloudy skies. Great part, stream has great water flowing at 64 degrees. Nothing was really hatching and nothing was rising. So another nymphing morning. Jeff is back into fly fishing after a little time off. I worked on a few things, but he had it under control. I figured we’d move a few, but these wild trout keep you guessing. It is the “Dog-days-of summer” for trouting, but these trout today were active and on the bite. Jeff’s only issue, was setting the hook. He had 7 including a large brown on for a few seconds. Jeff started to realize and pick up on the light takes. He ended up with two 14 to 16 inch browns and three rainbows. You flat out can’t beat that for July. I have dates available and early morning starts ending by 11:30AM. A half day is plenty this time of year anyway.

Antietam, 06/29/26
I met John and the farmhouse yesterday to be sure he got in OK. We clicked as soon as we met each other and today on the stream was a blast. We got very lucky because the clouds never broke. It was 67 degrees and warmed to 84 degrees. The water is still in good flow and 60 to 65 degrees. Some tricos were hatching, but the bite is still on nymphs. We fished from 7:30AM until noon. Never seen such a busy man. At one point, rod in one hand phone in the other. We were to do a full day, but John said he was just gonna have to get going. Still, it was a great day. John is one heck of a good fly fisherman. He lost and missed 9. Most of them while he was on the phone with the other hand. Landed two browns and a rainbow all were 15-17 inches. Plus picked up one more around 13 inches. I can’t wait, because John is already looking at 2027 April dates.
