6 things that your child will learn in their first year of dance class that may surprise you. đź©°
Of course they’ll learn ballet steps. They’ll learn to point their toes, follow along with a combination, and maybe even perform on stage. ✨
But the things we love most aren’t always the things you can put on a recital program.
1) They learn they can do hard things: They discover that something can feel difficult at first and still be worth trying again.
2) They become more confident: Little by little, they start trusting themselves, trying new things, and feeling proud of what they can do.
3) Their coordination improves: Dance asks little bodies to listen, move, balance, remember, and coordinate all at once! And those skills extend far beyond the studio.
4) They become more independent: They learn classroom routines, practice listening, follow directions, take care of their belongings, and begin doing more on their own.
5) They make new friends: They learn how to be part of a group, take turns, encourage their classmates, and find their little place in a community.
6) And they surprise you: Maybe it’s their first time dancing on stage. Maybe they finally master something they’ve been practicing. Or maybe you catch them dancing around the kitchen at home.
For little dancer, ballet class is a place to move, imagine, play, make friends, build confidence, and discover “I can do it.”
And that’s a pretty wonderful way to spend a year. 🩰💕
