This is an excellent, high-quality recipe for a baseball glove conditioner! It closely mirrors the premium, all-natural conditioners on the market. It results in a soft, spreadable balm rather than a semi-solid wax block.

• 4 fl oz (24 tsp) Jojoba Oil
• 6.5 tsp Shea Butter
• 9 tsp Beeswax

This recipe has a 3.4:1 ratio, which means that for every 3.4 parts of liquid/soft ingredients in your recipe, you have 1 part of the hard ingredient (beeswax).

After extensive testing with almost ten different batches, I've found the perfect balance is a ratio of 3:1 to 4:1.

• The Texture: A smooth, scoopable, buttery balm. It holds its shape in the tin but instantly melts into a rich cream when rubbed between your fingers.

• Application: Smooth and controlled. It stays exactly where you wipe it, giving you total control over how much product the leather absorbs.

• Best Used For: Routine, seasonal maintenance. This is the gold standard for regular glove care because it balances deep conditioning with surface protection without risking the glove becoming waterlogged or heavy.

Here is a breakdown of why this combination works so well for baseball glove leather, along with a few tips on how to apply it:

• Pure Golden Jojoba Oil: This unrefined, cold-pressed liquid wax ester is the gold standard for premium glove care. Because its molecular structure perfectly mirrors the natural oils found in steerhide, it absorbs deeply to restore flexibility without making the glove heavy or greasy. It is completely non-staining; while it will briefly deepen the tone of bright-colored leather upon application, it dissipates beautifully within 48 hours to reveal the glove's original shade.

• White Beeswax Pellets: Using clean, filtered white beeswax ensures the balm goes on completely transparent. It creates a breathable, water-resistant shield on the surface of the glove to block out dirt, moisture, and game-day sweat.

• Raw, Off-White Shea Butter: Opting for off-white or ivory shea butter adds a rich conditioning element that restores suppleness to dry leather. It gives the balm a smooth, spreadable texture without transferring any artificial dyes or yellow pigments to light-colored leather.

How to Safely Apply It

1. Clean the Glove First: Wipe down your glove with a slightly damp cloth to remove any surface dirt, dust, or debris. Let it dry completely before conditioning.

2. Use a Light Hand: A little bit of this balm goes a long way. Scoop a small, dime-sized amount onto a clean microfiber cloth or use your fingers (your body heat will help melt the balm smoothly).

3. Rub It In: Work the balm into the leather using circular motions. Pay special attention to high-wear areas like the pocket, the palm, and the web. Avoid over-saturating the laces, as too much conditioner can make them overly stretchy.

4. Buff and Dry: Let the glove sit for about 30 to 60 minutes to allow the jojoba oil and shea butter to absorb. Then, take a clean, dry cloth and buff away any excess residue left on the surface.

Most glove guys/gals keep their secret formulas under lock and key—but not me. I wanted to put this recipe out there because I genuinely want you to experience how great it is. Half the fun is actually making the conditioner yourself! Grab your ingredients, have fun with the process, and go preserve the life of your favorite gloves.

How to Make It: Step-by-Step

Step 1: Prep the Water Bath & Warm the Base

Place a canning rack at the bottom of a large pot and fill it with about 2 inches of water. Pour the 4 fl oz of Jojoba oil into a heat-safe glass measuring cup, set it right on top of the rack, and bring the water to a boil. This safely warms the oil using indirect heat so it’s ready for the other ingredients.

Step 2: Add the Solids

Once the jojoba oil is warm, drop in the measured 9 tsp of white beeswax pellets and 6.5 tsp of raw shea butter.

Step 3: Melt and Stir

Keep the mixture over the heat, stirring continuously. The warmth of the pre-heated oil will help the pellets and butter dissolve quickly. Keep stirring until the mixture is completely melted, clear, and seamlessly blended.

Step 4: The Pour

Carefully lift the hot glass measuring cup out of the water bath and pour the liquid balm into two 4 oz metal tins. This exact recipe will fill both tins roughly 3/4 of the way up.

Step 5: Let It Cool

Immediately transfer the filled tins to the refrigerator and let them chill for 30 minutes to jump-start the hardening process. After 30 minutes, take them out of the fridge and let the conditioner cure at room temperature for 24 hours before your first use. This creates a perfectly stable, smooth texture!
