Most adults train almost entirely forward and backward: squat, deadlift, run, bike, press, pull.
That is useful. It is also not enough.
Wednesday at FIT is our lateral-focus day: skater jumps, lateral med-ball slams, lateral step sandbag cleans, and side squats. We’re building the ability to produce and absorb force side-to-side—not just in a straight line.
Why should you care?
Because real life, sport, and athletic movement rarely stay perfectly in one lane. Cutting, changing direction, catching yourself, stepping around something, getting out of a car, playing with your kids, moving on a court—all require lateral strength, power, and control.
When you never train that capacity, you can become strong in the gym but still feel stiff, hesitant, and underprepared when movement gets less predictable.
Side squats build strength and usable range through the hips and adductors. Skater jumps teach lateral power and landing control. Slams and sandbag cleans let you express that force with intent.
That’s the point of Total Fitness: not just making you tired or stronger at a few familiar lifts.
We help adults build a body that can look, move, and feel athletic again. ⚡️
