Can the average sportsman driver really feel the difference between generations of race buggies?

I recently talked with Team Associated driver Gabe Boudreau about the differences between my RC8B4 and his newer RC8B4.2.

Gabe said that at his level, he could definitely feel the difference between the two cars on the track—even if they were set up identically. A professional-level driver can pick up on small changes in steering response, stability, weight transfer and how the buggy handles bumps and jumps.

But could an average sportsman driver like me feel those same differences?

Tire choice is about 80% of your set up. And if you don’t have the right ones, they won’t hook up. Gluing tires is the most time-consuming thing and I completely suck at it. But I was able to get these Klinik spoke wheels mounted to a fresh set of meats and my truck is hooked up all day long so I’m looking forward to one more round of qualifying before we start the main events tomorrow

Here I’m explaining to a couple of brand new riders, how shifting gears will make the bike easier to ride. New riders tend to stay stuck in first gear for longer than they should be. When you shift gears, the bike will calm down and become easier to ride. It will also reduce the engine vibration and the harmonics traveling through the bike to the rider.

While out filming our training group today, I was analyzing Iain’s breaking points and noticed that he was getting stood up in the corner a bit instead of the front tire diving down into it. I suggested more front breaking force, so the forks compress, which changes your turn radius, allowing you to steer the bike into the rut instead of riding up and out of it.

Frankie loves his evening rides in the truck. Every evening we do about a 10 mile loop along the back roads in Floresville. He just loves to “GO FO RIDE!”
