Tapping out isn't losing. It's learning in real time.
That's what separates jiu jitsu from everything else. Every submission you catch, every position you escape, every roll where nothing goes your way — it's all data. Your body is memorizing what your mind hasn't figured out yet. You just have to keep showing up.
That's the culture at K**a Jiu Jitsu. We're not here to build egos. We're here to build people.
Come try a free class at our Flower Mound, TX or Irvine, CA location and find out what progress actually feels like.

This is one of those details that changes everything on the mat 🥋
Strength means nothing if your weight is in the wrong place. Proper weight distribution is what keeps you in control of a position, makes you harder to move, and drains your opponent without you burning out. It is one of the most underrated concepts in jiu jitsu and one of the first things we teach at K**a.
When you understand how to use your body weight correctly, size stops being the deciding factor. That is the beauty of this art 💪

REPOST FROM: Jiu jitsu without borders
A Ryan Young story
By Steven Sacomprido Uriarte
Ryan Young stands as a cherished figure in the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) community, not for a collection of championship titles, but for his unwavering dedication to preserving the art's foundational principles. Ryan's journey into BJJ began in Hawaii under the guidance of Relson Gracie. His early training instilled in him a deep respect for the traditional aspects of the discipline.
Seeking to expand his knowledge, Ryan moved to California, where he trained at Rorion Gracie's academy. There, he had the privilege of learning from Rorion himself and training alongside the legendary Rickson Gracie. These experiences profoundly influenced his understanding and appreciation of BJJ's core philosophies.
Ryan's path eventually led him to Ken Gabrielson, one of the first Americans to earn a black belt in BJJ and a member of the esteemed "Dirty Dozen." Gabrielson, a student of Reylson Gracie, further enriched Ryan's perspective on the art.
However, it was under the mentorship of Dave K**a, a direct disciple of Rickson Gracie, that Ryan found his true calling. Embracing K**a's vision, Ryan committed himself to preserving Rickson's pure expression of BJJ. This commitment manifested in the creation of K**a Jiu-Jitsu, a YouTube channel dedicated to sharing insights, techniques, and philosophies rooted in traditional BJJ.
Through K**a Jiu-Jitsu, Ryan has become one of the early digital pioneers in the BJJ community, offering a wealth of knowledge to practitioners worldwide. His calm demeanor, clear instruction, and authentic voice have made him a beloved figure among enthusiasts and newcomers alike.
Thank you, Ryan Young, for your steadfast dedication to the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Your efforts to preserve its foundational principles and share them with the world exemplify the true spirit of the discipline. You are the embodiment of commitment and passion in the BJJ community.
