Jiu-jitsu at sea with Ryan Young, June 18 to 23, 2027.

Five days on the Norwegian Escape out of Port Canaveral, stopping in Cozumel and Great Stirrup Cay. Three instructional sessions, two guided open mats, and private lesson time you can’t get at the academy.

Capped at 30 people, so this is a small room with a lot of mat time.

Once you're there, why not take advantage? Stay glued chest to chest, keep the connection, and work your way around into cross side. No scrambling, no space given back.

Connection is the whole game in Rickson's jiu-jitsu. If you're touching them, you're controlling them. Lose the connection and you start over.

Cross side bottom is one of the worst places to be. Heavy pressure, no air, and every instinct tells you to push.

This is where jiu-jitsu earns its keep. Escape to turtle, transition through the hip switch, and come up in cross side top. No strength, no panic, just position and timing.

Before you step on the mat, know who you are learning from.

Master Dave K**a has been training jiu jitsu since the mid-1980s — starting at the legendary Gracie Garage in Torrance, CA. He is one of the very few people in the world to have earned every belt from blue to black directly under Master Rickson Gracie, receiving his black belt in 1995. As number two of the Dirty Dozen — the first twelve non-Brazilian black belts — he became Rickson's top student and trusted understudy, assisting in seminars across the globe.

In 1993 Rickson personally appointed him head instructor of the Laguna Niguel academy. He rebranded it as K**a Jiu Jitsu in 2012 and has been building champions and communities ever since. Master Dave currently holds a 6th degree black belt.

This is who is teaching you. This is the lineage behind every class at K**a Jiu Jitsu.
