Charlton County friends, we have no formal animal control or shelter system in place. Iβm stepping up to advocate for stronger local laws to protect both small animals and livestock from neglect and cruelty. If you care about this issue and want to help shape a solution, join me.I know that Charlton county has Heart 2 Heart Animal Welfare Organization in place but it's time to gets codes and laws passed, so there CAN be enforcement in our county. I'm willing to help in any way I can, are you? Comment below or message me if you want to get involvedβletβs bring real change for our animals!

π΄ Meet Princess π΄
On Thursday, June 4th at approximately 2:30 PM, we rescued Princess from a neglect situation on Mary Street in Folkston, Georgia. Her condition was one of the most severe neglect cases I've personally encountered. Honestly, I wasn't sure she would survive her first few days.
Upon arrival, I immediately administered a tube of electrolytes. Princess could barely walk, and I was concerned she wouldn't even be able to load onto the trailer. Much to my surprise, that little red mare stepped right onto the 3-horse slant trailer without hesitation.
When my partner, Eric Milton, and I arrived back at EM Equine on Pinckney Drive, we carefully unloaded her, providing extra support to help keep her steady. While Eric held her in the shade to graze, I administered Bute, a common equine pain reliever, followed by a dose of Zimecterin Gold dewormer.
For the next two days, Princess passed jet-black manure that contained large amounts of dirt. It quickly became clear she had been surviving on little more than dirt, bark, and leaves for quite some time. On day three, we added SandClear to her feed to help remove the sand and dirt that had accumulated in her digestive tract.
Now, just shy of one week later, Princess has improved by leaps and bounds. If I had to estimate, she has already gained 30β40 pounds. Her eyes are brighter, her energy level is increasing, and she is beginning to act like a horse again.
These two photos were taken less than one week apart. While Princess still has a long road ahead of her, the difference is already incredible. Proper nutrition, clean water, veterinary care, parasite treatment, and simply being safe have already begun transforming her life. Recovery won't happen overnight, but every day she gets a little stronger.
Today, Princess enjoys unlimited access to quality hay and pasture, clean fresh water, shelter, and even a fan to help keep her comfortable in the Georgia heat. This sweet little mare has made herself right at home, and we couldn't be happier to have her here.
Princess still needs continued veterinary care, including: βοΈ Vaccinations
βοΈ Coggins testing
βοΈ Wellness examination
βοΈ Hoof care
βοΈ Treatment for thrush
If you would like to help support Princess on her road to recovery, donations are greatly appreciated. We can accept Venmo, Cash App, PayPal, debit/credit cards, or checks made payable to Elizabeth Micochero.
I am honored that Sheriff Phillips trusted me to assist with such a delicate case. This experience has only strengthened my desire to be part of the desperately needed animal rescue and welfare efforts here in Charlton County.
Thank you to everyone who has checked on Princess, shared her story, donated, and offered support. We can't wait to show you her continued progress. β€οΈπ΄
