This week’s training focus: Repeated speed efforts and fatigue management.

Speed late in games matters just as much as speed early. This week focuses on maintaining mechanics and effort when athletes are tired — without sacrificing form.

We train:

Repeated sprint efficiency

Recovery between efforts

Mental focus under fatigue

Drill spotlight: Timed Sprint Intervals
Athletes perform short sprints with controlled rest to simulate game demands.
Coaching cue: “Same mechanics, every rep.”

Why this matters:
Athletes who can maintain form under fatigue perform better late in games and stay healthier across long seasons.

This week’s training focus: Deceleration, foot placement, and change of direction.

Agility isn’t about fancy cone drills — it’s about how well an athlete can slow down, control their body, and re-accelerate. This week emphasizes body control and efficient movement patterns during direction changes.

We focus on:

Proper deceleration mechanics

Foot positioning during cuts

Balance and body awareness

Drill spotlight: Lateral Stick & Re-Accelerate
Athletes learn to stop under control before exploding back out.
Coaching cue: “Control first, then go.”

Why this matters:
Most injuries happen during poor deceleration. Teaching athletes how to stop and change direction safely improves performance and reduces risk.

-This type of agility training transfers directly to game situations.

This week’s training focus: Max velocity mechanics and upright sprinting form.

Once acceleration is established, we shift to how athletes move at higher speeds. Many young athletes overstride, tense up, or lose posture when sprinting at full speed — all of which limit performance and increase injury risk.

We work on:

Tall sprint posture and hip position

Quick, elastic ground contacts

Relaxed upper body mechanics

Drill spotlight: A-Skips to Fly Runs
This combination reinforces posture and rhythm before transitioning into controlled sprinting.
Coaching cue: “Run tall and fast, not long and slow.”

Why this matters:
Top-end speed is what separates good athletes from great ones in open-field situations. Cleaner mechanics allow athletes to run faster without working harder.

This week’s training focus: Acceleration mechanics and first-step efficiency.

Many athletes look fast once they’re moving, but games are often decided in the first 3–5 steps. This week, training is centered around teaching athletes how to apply force into the ground properly so they can explode out of a stance, cut, or break.

We emphasize:

Proper body angles during the acceleration phase

Strong shin angles and forward force projection

Efficient arm action to support powerful lower-body movement

Drill spotlight: Wall Acceleration Drill
This drill teaches athletes how to lean correctly and push the ground back instead of popping straight up.
Coaching cue: “Push the ground behind you, don’t stand up too early.”

Why this matters:
Better acceleration translates directly to football starts, basketball drives, and lacrosse dodges. When mechanics improve, speed becomes repeatable and safer for growing athletes.
