MAT® is not a single method or corrective strategy. It is a structured, test-based system that guides decision-making—allowing practitioners to assess, address, and retest muscle function so progress is measurable and repeatable.

MAT is what allows me to use precise exercise prescription for my clients!

Muscle Activation Techniques has been a game changer for not only my clients but for my career as a fitness professional. I can always answer the question… is this person tolerating the stress they are putting on their muscular nervous system!

How many hip flexors are there?
To name a few… Psoas Major, TFL, Iliacus, Re**us Femoris, Adductor Longus, Brevis, Pectinous and Sartorius.

All play a role in Hip Flexion but how do you know which are receiving proper input and which are not? answers those questions and so much more!

Developed by .roskopf is a hands-on neuromuscular therapy focused on identifying and correcting muscle inhibition, the root cause of muscle tightness and pain. By addressing these underlying issues, MAT aims to improve the body’s overall function and performance.

I use as part of my process to assess, correct and progress my clients to help them do the things they want to do!

I like to say you need to earn your right to exercise! Show me your muscular system is prepared for what you want to achieve.

My process starts with as a way to assess, identify weakness then activate to restore proper neuromuscular function. If you don’t get the body right then exercise can lead to tightness and pain.

Exercise alone is not the cure all for muscular dysfunction… you have to know where to begin and then continue to assess how exercise is either helping or hurting you!

has truly been the game changer for my clients!

The Integrated Body

My mentor Greg Roskopf, the developer of likes to say “The integrated body is only as good as its isolated parts.” And I could not agree more!

You can call what I am doing here a triceps pushdown or elbow extension but is it just that?

Just the fact that I am standing means everything from the foot to the cervical spine has a play in this exercise. Not to mention all the forces being put through the shoulder (glenhumeral joint) that need to stabilize me to keep my arms in place.

It’s important to understand all the forces being placed on the muscular system when doing an exercise. It’s not just my triceps working here… although they feel most of the work. 🤣

How much time do you put in to preparing for activity?

The ability to contract muscles efficiently is key to every activity you participate in.

Here are a couple of snapshots of Isometrics I am taking my client Matt through before his golf lesson.

In a little over 10 minutes we were able to get key areas of tightness opened up by activating areas In which he is inhibited by normally.
