ONLY IN FORKS!! The 2nd Annual “Ellie Invite” was held yesterday at Low Life Links golf course with 48 participants entered. Logan and Landen Olson started a fundraising golf tourney for their cousin Ellie who was diagnosed with cancer last year. Before the event started Ellie’s Grandmother Leona read us a touching letter from Ellie that she had written telling us on how she is doing and how excited she is to start school again and just be a happy little girl, quite emotional to say the least!! This year Jalen Depew wanted to do a fund raiser for a LLL member Javier Contreras whose wife Kassidy was recently diagnosed with cancer. Jalen and the Olson boys put together a tourney to help raise money to help cover costs not covered by insurance. Our one day event at LLL raised over $12 thousand dollars for the Contras family!! Just to be clear not $12 hundred, $12,000.00!! People can say what they want about Forks, but what other small communities do you know of that can do something like this? It was a beautiful day for such a special event and the “Benji’s” were flying like they were dollar bills to support the event!! We even had LLL members who couldn’t make the event donate to the cause. Ellie’s Grandma Leona and Kathy Coburn helped keeping the guys fed along with Mr and Mrs Contreras who cooked Carne Asada and chicken that is the best I have ever had. If you ever get the chance to try it, word of advice, don’t refuse because it is truly a treat!! Ashlyn and Terra kept the golfers hydrated at the “Caddy Shack” so nobody went thirsty. There was such positive energy promoted yesterday that it provided a good medicine for Kassidy that Dr.s can’t prescribe and it’s going to help her in her fight!! Thank you to all the golfers and families that supported the Coburn and Contreras families yesterday. On the golfing side of the event Logan Olson outlasted Javier to take first place in this years event. Javier took 2nd, Landen Olson beat Special K in a tiebreaker to take 3rd and Special K took 4th. Rounding out the top 6 was Brian in 5th and Kyle Hess taking 6th.
