Apparently National Boyfriend Day was yesterday but I’m running late... 😂💛

I never imagined having a boyfriend at almost 40, but some of the best things in life are unexpected and completely unplanned.

As a mom of two teenage daughters and a young son, I’m also very aware that they’re watching how I love, what I accept, what I value, and what healthy partnership looks like.

I’m grateful for a man who is smart, funny, hardworking, communicative, authentic, caring, and incredibly patient with me as I continue healing and becoming.

One thing I teach teens and parents is the importance of getting clear about what YOU value; not what everyone else says you should want. I had to learn that lesson for myself, too.

And apparently we’ve reached the stage where a Ross run counts as a date. 😂 We’ve had plenty of adventures since February, but I’ve learned there’s something pretty special about enjoying the ordinary stuff together, too.

Happy (belated) National Boyfriend Day to my unexpected blessing Shannon Latham❤️

Last night reminded me exactly why I do this work. 💛

My Parenting Redefined Back-to-School Workshop was an incredible evening of learning, reflection, and practical strategies parents can actually use.

And here’s the thing: “back-to-school” strategies aren’t just for August and September.

Parents need support all year long as they navigate communication, expectations, academics, relationships, and helping their children grow into confident, successful young people.

As schools begin thinking about spring programming, I’d love to connect with principals, Heads of School, PTA/PTO leaders, and other school leaders who want to offer families something meaningful, practical, and impactful.

📚 As the author of the #1 bestseller Parenting Redefined, I bring a unique perspective to family engagement. I spent 10 years as an educator in public and charter schools and now serve on the faculty of an independent school. I understand the importance of a strong partnership between schools and families—and what can happen when both are equipped to support students well.

Through author talks, parent workshops, family nights, and parent education programs, I equip parents with practical strategies to become more:

💛 Involved in their child’s growth
💛 Informed about what their child needs
💛 Engaged as a true partner in their education

Because when schools intentionally equip parents, students are better positioned to excel academically and socially.

If you’re planning your Spring 2027 parent and family programming, I’d love to explore what a Parenting Redefined experience could look like at your school.

Twenty-five years ago today, I was sitting in my middle school English class.

Like we did every morning, we were watching student news when the ordinary suddenly became something none of us would forget.

September 11, 2001.

I remember being a middle schooler trying to understand what I was watching. And today, I work with middle schoolers who weren’t even close to being born when it happened.

To them, 9/11 is history.

To many of us, it’s a memory.

And not all memories are good ones.

That’s something I’ve been thinking about today—not only as an educator, but as a Teen Choice Coach™ and a parent.

Our teens are creating memories right now. Every day.

Some will be beautiful. Some will be difficult. Some will be shaped by circumstances completely outside of their control.

But within those moments, there are still choices.

Who do I turn to when life gets hard?
Who can I trust?
How do I respond when someone else is hurting?
Will I help or walk away?
What kind of person will I choose to be in a crisis?

Today, is about perspective, helpers, and what happens when people face a crisis—because history is more than memorizing what happened. It’s learning from the people who lived it.

Our teens may be far removed from September 11, 2001, but they aren’t far removed from needing adults who will help them process hard things, make thoughtful choices, and understand that the decisions they make today become part of the stories they’ll tell tomorrow.

That’s part of what it means to redefine the way we support teens and families.

We can’t choose every experience our children will have.

But we can help prepare them to choose who they will be in the middle of it.

Never forget. ❤️🤍💙
