Many of you have seen the issue being discussed relating to a proposed pilot program that would limit bike access through an alternating day of use system on Boulder County multi-use trails.
Even though it is outside of OMBA’s official region, this is a potential policy matter that could affect all who ride mountain bikes along the Northern Front Range Region. There are many OMBA members who frequently ride trail systems that would be directly impacted, including Hall Ranch, Heil Valley, Picture Rock and more.
The idea of alternating use may sound intriguing at first glance. But, when you dive into this proposal, the negative impacts would be much greater to mountain bike riders than to any other user group. The far greater issue is that the number of quality trails in the region open to mountain biking is not keeping up with the needs and desires of our growing population.
We strongly support expanding trail options in areas that are appropriate through well-planned and high-quality trails, including bike-only directional trails. According to local Larimer County surveys, hiker-hiker negative interactions are of far greater concern to trail users than are hiker-biker negative interactions.
Restricting use to this level on Boulder County trails will cause those local riders to venture further from home to recreate. Larimer County is a likely destination for those riders, thus increasing usage on these trails as a result.
We will continue to follow this issue closely, and we’ll continue to support and follow the lead from our friends at Boulder Mountainbike Alliance however they need.

We are opposed to no-bike days at more Boulder County Parks & Open Space trails. Instead of restricting access, let's improve the outdoor experience for all trail visitors!

Volunteer Dig Updates!

Over the past two dig nights, 43 volunteers showed up across our OMBA crew, FCNA, partners from CATS, putting in real work on drainage structures, large rock installations, and a full tread cleanup.

We cut back vegetation, swept loose rock off the surface, built drains to move water off the tread instead of through it, and tackled what might be the most technical corner on the trail, moving big rocks into place to keep the ride interesting without the bike-damaging pinch points that had formed over the years.

Two weeks of numbers: 515 feet of tread, 10 drains, and 205.5 cubic feet of rock work.

Shoutout to the volunteers who stayed flexible, and kept the energy up through both events. And a huge thank you to Johnny and for the post-dig drinks and hot dogs two weeks running, you are officially a trail crew staple.

Only 3 more weeks until we take a summer hiatus and pick Thursday dig nights back up in September, so if you’ve been waiting to get your hands dirty, now’s the time to sign up!

The Diamond Peaks MTB Patrol had a packed May on and off the trails!

They kicked off the season with a group ride through Hewlett Gulch, followed by a social at a local brewery, then spent a full training day at Lory State Park covering horse and rider etiquette, trailside bike mechanics, and first aid.

Hugh Templeton of the Larimer County Horseman’s Association even brought his horse out for hands-on safety practice.

These volunteers are out there making our trails safer and more enjoyable for everyone. Thank you to Hugh, patroller John Byers, and patroller Steve Roths for leading sessions that make a real difference.

Here’s to a strong & safe season on the trails!

The NoCo MTB Fest is leveling up this year!!

We’re heading to Inlet Bay at Horsetooth Reservoir Friday, September 25th through Sunday, September 27th for a full weekend of riding, camping, community, 75+ miles of single track and everything that makes Northern Colorado mountain biking special.

This year’s festival will include:

• Group rides for a variety of abilities
• Skills clinics
• Bike demos + vendors + food trucks
• On site camping at Inlet Bay
• Community events all weekend

The new location gives us more space to ride, connect, camp, and build an even bigger weekend experience together.

We’re currently gathering interest for camping so we can better plan the weekend setup, so make sure to fill out the camping survey here if you’re interested in staying on site: https://noco-mtb.lovable.app/camp-survey

Vendor and sponsor applications are officially open too! If your business wants to connect with Northern Colorado’s mountain bike community, this is shaping up to be one of the biggest years yet. Inquiry forms available on the vendor/sponsor pages.

Ticketing and volunteer signups are coming soon.

We can’t wait to see everyone at Horsetooth this summer.

Good trails don’t build themselves, but a good community does!

The trails we all love in Northern Colorado don’t maintain themselves. Lory, Horsetooth, Bobcat Ridge, they stay open and in good shape because people show up for them.

Before sunrise with tools, in meetings most of us never know about, building what we all get to enjoy.

The Spring Membership Drive is open through May 31 and all you have to do is join or renew your membership with OMBA. Joining or renewing is the most direct way to be part of that work, and everyone who does is automatically entered to win one of six prize packages from , , , , , , , and more. Two Yeti SB140s. A guided trip for two. Wheels, gear, the good stuff.

Link in bio to join or renew or head here: https://www.imba.com/join/chapter/overland-mtb And if you know someone who rides these trails and hasn’t joined yet, tag them below.

Awesome day out on DR Trail with OMBA staff, FCNA staff, and volunteers last Saturday, building 49 drainage structures across more than 2,100 feet of trail from the Powerline/Valley Loop junction up DR Trail.

These drains help move water off the trail tread to prevent erosion, protect the trail surface, and keep DR riding better for longer. The wind and partial shade made for a great day to dig and good vibes .

Huge thanks to everyone who came out and put in the work to help keep these trails in great shape!
