Posts like these will always break my heart. Please please please educate yourself & others on the layers of protection to prevent childhood drowning.
We are heartbroken by the devastating loss of 71 children to drowning in Florida so far this year. Each of these precious lives taken far too soon is a painful reminder of the importance of water safety, supervision, and education. Our thoughts and prayers are with every one these families.
We also want to point out that July has already had 9 drownings. 2 were in the care of a grandparent, 1 found their way into a neighbor's pool, THREE were at Air B&B's and 1 was an autistic child in a pond.
Please please please do not think it can't happen to you. One of the worst things I hear is "It won't happen to me, I watch my child". I cringe every time I hear that! We are human and can not watch our child 24/7 so you need to make sure ALL Layers of Protection are in place to avoid this preventable tragedy.
1 - Effective Adult Supervision - NEVER leave a child alone in or near water. Designate a water watcher when swimming.
2 - Doors/Windows - locked and alarmed at ALL times
3 - REMOVE Pet doors! If you are visiting a home with one then you need to make sure it is locked!
4 - FENCE THAT POOL - No excuses. If you have a home with a pool and young children you MUST have a fence.
5 - Self-Rescue swim lessons. Please do your research and make sure your instructor is certified in survival lessons and insured. You can find a certified ISR instructor at infantswim.com
6 - Learn CPR
