The 1st Ohio has reported back from Richmond!

We would firstly like to thank the amazing event coordinators for hosting us and putting on an excellent event. Every effort was made to ensure our mounts (and ourselves!) were completely provided for and well taken care of for the weekend. We could not have asked for better.

Secondly, a great thank you to all of our members. Everyone conducted themselves in the manner of a true trooper. We rode hard, drilled sharply, and worked together as a unit. Thank you all so much. Because of your hard work on and off the field, this past weekend was a success.

And last but not least, the biggest thank you to our family and friends that support, encourage, and allow us to continue to do what we love.

We hope to see the Battle of Richmond Kentucky on our schedules again!

In two short weeks we will be taking the field at the Richmond, Kentucky.

Troopers should come ready to ride blue or grey, with plenty of rounds, and horses in top shape. Prepare for warm weather!

We look forward to seeing you all Friday.

Update!

There has been an addition to our schedule. The 1st Ohio Volunteer Cavalry will be at Richmond Kentucky in August. We would love to see you all there, and we look forward to attending this event.

We would like to thank everyone at the Eastern Kentucky Horse Expo for inviting us to attend their amazing event! We had a wonderful time riding and speaking with the crowd. We hope to be invited back next year!

Come out and see us this weekend at the Eastern Kentucky Horse Expo! We will be giving a short demonstration and be available afterwards to answer any questions about what it takes to be a cavalry trooper. We’d love to see you all there!

The 1st OVC would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all of our friends and family that attended our first training camp. We had a wonderful time working with everyone and look forward to the rest of the season!

Our training camp is quickly approaching! As a reminder all troopers are expected to be in camp by 5pm Friday night. We have a full weekend planned and look forward to seeing all of our friends!

February 1861.

Delegates from the seceded states gathered and established a Confederate government with a provisional constitution and provisionally elected Jefferson Davis as president. His inauguration would take place at the end of the month in Montgomery Alabama.

This provisional government created a Peace Commission to try to avoid a war with the United States, but the efforts fell apart.

Texas voted for secession, while Tennesee did not.

Arkansas troops seized the United States Arsenal at Little Rock and forced the Federal garrison to withdraw on February 8th. They seized the United States ordnance stores at Napoleon, Arkansas on February 12th.

Texas began taking arsenals and garrisons across the state.

The Choctaw Nation aligned with the southern states.

Lincoln is officially announced as the president-elect, and arrived in Washington, D.C. for his inauguration.
