3 generations of Barney men from the Rowdy Old Ravens took to the pool in our DMV league on July 16! Read More ⬇️
This was a special meet for the Barney family because the oldest member of their family, Keith Barney, swam at the impressive age of 92.
Anson Barney, (left and Keith’s son), was a swimmer at his local pool growing up in the 1980’s in Springfield, Virginia. Over the past decades, he has continued to swim for fun and to stay in shape.
Once Anson’s son, Nicholas (Nick, right), was born in 2007, Anson hoped that as Nick got older he would also have a love for swimming. Nick did inherit his love for swimming, and was part of the youth summer Ravensworth Swim Team for 13 years. He continues to swim at the College Club Swimming club level while attending George Mason University, and is now happy to be part of the Rowdy Old Ravens Grown-Up Swimming Team.
Keith Barney (92, middle) was never into sports growing up and did not compete on any teams. He spent 2 years in the United States Army and 22 years in the active reserve, 25 years as a teacher for Fairfax County, VA, and later in his life as a contractor for the Navy. Keith always enjoyed swimming for exercise, so when his family encouraged him to join Grown-Up Swimming, he gladly accepted.
Keith turned 92 on July 12. He was greeted at the meet with cheers and clapping as he completed his 25 M breaststroke. Keith is a staple at Ravensworth Pool where he also has a passion of collecting cans for recycling to help the environment.
Their family is so proud of these 3 generations of Barney swimmers! 🩵
