Everyone have a reason as to why they do things or move the way they move. She is my reason.
As a single mother of one, I aim to become as knowledgeable as I can about self protection. From all the videos you see circulating, we are out first line of defense. It will take time before police could come to aid or many or just too busy pulling out cellphones before they think to help.
I vow to protect this sunshine as long as the blood pumping through my veins 🥰

Some people just buy a gun and feel as though that it. WRONG!! In order to properly handle a firearm, you need training or at least have the basics of safe firearm handling.
One of the universal rules for firearm handling is “KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOU ARE READY TO SHOOT”. As you can see in the picture, her finger is within the trigger guard. She could have easily rested her finger and unintentionally fired a round.
Next violation 🗣 “KEEP YOUR FIREARM POINTED IN A SAFE DIRECTION/ DO NOT POINT YOUR FIREARM AT ANYTHING OR ANYONE YOU DO NOT INTEND TO SHOOT”. She could’ve mistakenly killed any one of those individuals that she was flagging.

I’ve had the opportunity to teach a conceal carry course hosted by last weekend.
It felt great to spread the knowledge of gun safety and fight the stigma of guns we have within our black community. Thank you unc for inviting me to tag along. More videos to come 🥰

She studies visual disabilities at The Florida State University and I am proud to call her my Neo as she is a Spring ‘18 initiate of The Enchanting Epsilon Delta Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. She wore many hats as a leader on campus, including the president of The African Students’ Association, the captain of the C5 Dance Troupe, a member of the Haitian Cultural Club. She currently serves as an Adult Mentor for the International Rescue Committee. ⠀
