My Pete Rose story:

During the mid 1990's I was co-hosting a reasonably popular morning show on WQAM called "The First Team". At the time, Joe Rose was my partner. We were invited to a "celebrity" golf charity event and while I was sitting in my cart waiting to get going, someone walked over to me and said "Hey, Pete Rose would like to say hi".

I thought that was cool, it means he's a listener. I certainly know about him as a ballplayer. manager and all the rest.

I walk over, he warmly greets me. We've never met. In less than 30 seconds, he brought up an NFL game he gambled on involving the Raiders.

Not a lot of self awareness there to say the least! This was way before we had betting available everywhere.

Also, few debates get me to tune out faster than whether or not he belongs in the Hall of Fame. It's the same argument on both sides with no new information.

It is also mildly ironic the Hall put out a social media post on his death tonight.

I am not surprised Nick Saban and Bill Belichick are as good as they are on TV.
(PS-most of you know this, but I live in South Florida, where the mere mention of those two names cause a spike in blood pressure prescriptions)
If you've ever seen them interviewed in a relaxed setting for NFL Films or a one on one talk, their knowledge and love for the game and its history comes out. Great leaders tend to be clear communicators and both certainly were when they coached. I like watching them.

I still don't know if that ball was caught Friday night. Thanks to all the Zapruder loyalists for the hundreds of freeze frames that just added to the confusion.

I have no clue what has happened to Florida State football. It just can't be because Jordan Travis was a one man team.

Certainly the Dolphins appreciate all of us General Managers trying to tell them whom to sign as the backup to the backup to the backup QB. Mystery why they won't listen to us...

I have lived in this area for nearly 50 years and you only think Hurricanes affect beach areas, coastlines, etc. What has happened in Georgia, Tennessee and the mountains (!?) in NC just blows my mind. Still can't talk my wife into a move to Las Vegas though.

I demand all pro sports draft shows be as tightly run as the WNBA broadcast. Straight to the point, the desk has only three announcers plus one interviewer in the wings. Picks are coming in bunches of three and four so no waiting what seems like hours for selections. Analysts are prepared and focused, taking little time to make their points (not that's there is much time, which is great). It's all steak, no sizzle. The network and the league also understood a load of new viewers are tuned in tonight. Well done all around. I'm going to remember this when the first round of the NFL draft takes four hours.
