For me, tackling boat shows is a strategically choreographed dance - in quick, out quicker, and back to work ASAP. The marine treasure trove by Hardin Marine/CP Performance is always worth visiting. This Feb, I'll be a whirlwind through the Miami event seeing what I need, hitting the Mercury Racing demo and the Nor-Tech celebration, then it's back to Sarasota and a Saturday comeback for the Angle of Attack open-house. But first up, the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show in a week’s time.

I have a plan, rooted in efficiency. I’ll visit on the "Preview Day", less crowd, relaxed exhibitors. The more expensive ticket pays off in the form of hassle-free closer inspections of the boats. A perfect day to also mix the business with some pleasure, with Deep Impact Custom Boats and Nor-Tech hosting their respective events.

The show is a mecca for one wishing to buy a high-performance boat, with almost every relevant brand making a representation. But for me - a writer about boats, boaters, & boat events, my motto stays unchanged - get in, get out, and get back to work. See you there - if you're coming on Wednesday! 🛥️

Meet Bill Forenski of WMF Watercraft & Marine - an Avalon Boats dealer passionate about the power of outboard engines. Now based in Cape Coral, Fla, his MTI 390X center console sports a pair of Mercury Racing 500Rs, while his Cigarette 41 GTR Reserve, the 'Reserve Patience', boasts Quad 400Rs.

New on the docks is 'Fireball', a twin Mercury Racing 500R engine-powered Avalon that exemplifies Forenski's faith in this product line. In fact, he's sold 30+ Avalon pontoons fitted with Mercury Racing outboards making WMF the third largest Avalon dealer globally.

Forenski is not just a dealer, he's also a boater. Until recently, he had a Mercury Racing 500R equipped Avalon of his own. Now, there's a Ruby Red Avalon, aptly named 'Fireball', gracing his fleet.

Contrary to belief, big-power pontoons don't have a typical buyer. "Most of the time, it's someone who's had or has a performance boat," Forenski reveals.

As a board-member of the charity, Fort Myers Offshore, Forenski contributes towards scholarships for local students. This thriving powerboat club in Southwest Florida commences its 2026/2027 season on October 24.

Though currently Avalon-less, it's not for long. Rest assured, Forenski is steering towards another Mercury Racing outboard-powered Avalon soon! 🚤💦

Things are revving up for the first-ever LuminSea Bimini Cup set for October 24th. This unique powerboat endurance race breaks the mold of mainstream offshore racing with its 67-mile roundtrip, and the fleet of nine registered boats is just as diverse. The competition includes everything from a classic 1987 Apache Cigarette 515 sportboat making its comeback at Angle of Attack Marine, to a cutting-edge, turbine-engine-powered 50-foot Mystic catamaran. Familiar faces like John Wittenberger, Steve Curtis, and Leanna Shadlow will be hitting the waves, each amid their own unique mix of boat and team.

Safety is key for this event. The course will be guarded by SSR-Powerboat Safety & Rescue Team deploying rescue boats across five response zones. Expect a riveting race from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., livestreamed and coordinated by superb broadcaster Pete Riviero.
