won gold in Beijung

Remembering Honoree Hassan Abdel Rehim on the date of his birth.

He won 1 Major: 1950 English Channel Race. He set the English Channel speed record that year in 10 hours and 50 minutes. This broke a 1926 record and held until 1960. He completed 3 other English Channel swims: France to England in 1948 in 17 hours and 28 minutes; England to France in 1949 in 15 hours and 58 minutes; and France to England in 1951 in 12 hours and 25 minutes.

Today we remember the incredible Cynthia Nicholas, CM on her birthday. A legendary Canadian marathon swimmer, 'Queen of the Channel' in 1970s and early 80s, and dedicated politician. Her legacy continues to inspire us all.
