2016: The Villages SC vs. Floridians F.C.

PRESSURE IS BACK ON ... MIAMI CITY IS COMING TO TOWN.

The Floridians had enjoyed a nice 4 pts cushion at top of the league for a few days but it was not about to last. With 3 games scheduled for the early part of the week, the Villages and Surf had the opportunity to come back within a point of the lead, Miami within 2. The Surf had to go to overdrive and a penalty in the closing seconds of the game to beat Miami 3-2, yet managed to get the 3 pts they were looking for something the Villages were not able to do in Naples falling 3-2 to the Adrenaline. With the end of the season approaching and the pressure on getting the W getting stronger and more important, both game being decided in the closing minutes as it seemed like a tie was not going to help any of the teams.

The Floridians are in a must win situation against Miami if they want to keep the lead in the Division and alleviate the pressure coming from all the teams. The battle at the top of the league will be fierce to the end, the Villages, came short yesterday and are 3 points behind the Surf but still have their cards in hand having 2 games more to play. Miami and the Adrenaline are still in the race and will probably need to win out to make it into the playoffs.

This week end the Villages are traveling to Palm Beach to what is going to be a must win situation for them as well as for the Suns who will be looking for their first W of the season.

GETTING SOME AIR AT THE TOP OF THE LEAGUE !!!
Hard work and a good preparation with coach Fernando Valenzuela & assistant Coach Godoy paid off as the Floridians managed to come back from Port St Lucie with the 3 points they were looking for. The Floridians decided to prepare this game as seriously as possible by leaving the day and getting to St Lucie early. The players have enjoyed a great preparation and relaxation time at Club Med Sandpiper Bay and were ready for the battle that was about to begin.

In a very hard fought game at the top of the USL PDL table, the Floridians were able to hold off the early pressure from the Surf without mathematical damage. After a great save by Tyler Brew and some luck thanks to the woodwork, the Floridians then took control of the game and only a few very good saves by the Surf's goalkeeper on shots by Ryan Matthews & Gon Medina enabled them to keep their sheets clean. This will all change at the 76' following another beautiful free kick by Gerardo Menzeguez, Jorge "Coky" Piris was the most prompt to push the ball in the net and give the visitors the advantage on the score board (0-1).
The game was far from over and the home side decided to charge back very hard and pressure the Floridians that kept going, a little too much for the referee as a horrendous tackle by a Surf player on Cori Hill warranted a red card. The Floridians will hold to the end and manage another clean sheet. With this Win, the Floridians take a 4 Points lead at the head of the Southeast Division with a game in hand on the Surf and FC Miami City.

The biggest threat is now called the Villages who could come back within 1 pt of the Floridians if they win the game they have in hand.
