Departing your Residence/Hurricane Checklist
Departure Checklist

1. Turn off the electric to your hot water heater (important if you turn the water off)
2. Turn your washing machine faucets off to relieve the pressure
3. Close the door to the laundry but leave all interior unit doors open
4. Remove any items on your lanai
5. Shut off the water supply to your unit
6. If you have a humidistat on your AC , turn it to 65° and set temperature at 78-80 degrees
7. Place a cup of bleach in toilets and saran wrap the bowls to prevent evaporation and staining
8. Remove all perishable foods from cupboards
9. Empty two glasses of water in the dishwasher to keep seal from drying out and close and lock dishwasher door to limit evaporation
9. Securely lock all windows and sliders
10. Close all hurricane shutters (if installed)
11. Retain a caretaker to periodically check your unit
12. Provide the Management Company with alternate contact numbers
13. TURN OFF THE WATER TO YOUR UNIT

Hurricane Checklist

1. Close and lock all windows and sliders
2. Empty refrigerator and freezer and turn off the fridge
3. Leave refrigerator door open to provide air circulation
4. Remove all perishable food from cupboards or place in sealed containers
5. Remove furniture from balconies
6. Move interior furniture away from sliders and windows
7. Place rolled up towels in slider tracks to assist in mitigating water intrusion from wind driven rain
8. Turn off power to hot water heater
9. Turn off water supply to your unit
10. Be sure to have all personal insurance policies and agent contact numbers with you
11. Remove all valuable paintings and other items of importance for storage in a closed room or closet
12. Unplug all appliances and/or shut off circuit breakers
13. Be sure to provide emergency contact numbers to management
14. Have your caretaker check your unit before and after major storm events
15. Items left in garages should be raised above grade where possible in the event of storm surge
16. If you leave a vehicle in your garage space, place mothballs under the hood as a deterrent to wandering “critters” and leave vehicle keys somewhere in the unit if possible
17. Review the departure checklist and TURN OFF THE WATER!
