Are There Sharks In Fort Myers? Summer Fishing Guide 08/13/2026

What is worth planning for in Fort Myers, Sanibel & Captiva this week? The honest answer comes from current conditions—not a copied seasonal promise.

Summer shark and nearshore content should focus on the experience, weather windows, safe handling, and what the captain is seeing—not a guaranteed species result. Ask prospective guests whether they prefer a focused angling trip, a family outing, or a mixed coastal day.

Punta Rassa has been fishing well lately, and right now you've got three species showing up at the same time.

🐟 Mangrove snapper are stacked on the nearshore structure and have been chewing hard on the outgoing tide — this is the summer peak for this species and these fish are quality.

🎣 Snook are prime right now. Working the shaded mangrove edges early, before the heat sets in, is where it's happening. These fish are in full summer mode.

🔴 Redfish are heating up too, Sanibel to Boca Grande — another species that rewards an early start and moving water.

August fishing down here is all about timing. Get out early, work the moving water, and you'll be back at the dock with a cooler and a sunburn before lunch.

Captain Erik has weekday morning availability if you want in on it. Spots don't last long when three species are biting at once.

Best Month To Fish In Fort Myers, FL | Fishing Calendar 08/05/2026

People ask Captain Erik this one more than almost anything else: "When's the best time to come fish Fort Myers?"

Honest answer — there isn't a bad month here. But every month fishes differently. August means snapper on the nearshore reefs and snook tucked up in the shade. October brings the redfish schools. January is trout and sheepshead weather. Knowing which is which is the difference between a decent day and a great one.

We put together a full month-by-month breakdown of what bites when, so you can plan your trip around the fish instead of hoping for the best.

8 days. That's how much summer Lee County has left before the first bell rings on Tuesday, August 11.

🎒 If a fishing trip has been "we should really do that before school starts" for the last month, this is the week to actually book it.

Half-day (4hrs), 3/4-day (6hrs), and full-day (8hrs) private charters are open this week out of Punta Rassa — snook, redfish, trout, and mangrove snapper are all still biting strong in the back bays. No experience needed. Captain Erik will bait hooks, teach casting, and net the big ones — you just reel.

Man I can’t say enough about the kiddos the year!! From first timers to seasoned vets!! These boys stuck with it through heat, dodging storms, tough tides, slow fishing and just like that it was over!! It’s nice to see the growth and the previous years all make sense to them!! To the parents!! Thank you for trusting Mark and I with your kiddos!! Until next year!!
