Kearny Rangers

The Rangers brought it home! The Kearny Rangers finished their Summer season with an 8-1 record and only allowed 13 runs across 9 games! Congratulations to the 18U Northeast Division Champions!

I’ve let a couple of days go by trying to think of what I can say about this group. This was a special team for sure and one of the most solid teams I’ve put together in a while. Up until a week before the tournament I was still making modifications due to players dropping off but I think we definitely lucked out with the late additions. We started off the tournament with a tough loss to the Lehigh Valley Rail Riders but then went onto winning our next 3 pool games to secure the #2 seed and facing a tough North Carolina Giants team who played us tough during pool play semifinals. With the advice of some of my guys we decided to go with veteran Jeff Schmitt and although was a bit wild at times pitched his ass off leading us to a complete game 12-3 win. Schmitt also battled a stomach bug the night of game and wasn’t sure what he be able to bring but I think he just went into the zone from the first pitch. The great weekend unfortunately ended for us in a rain shortened finals against the Rail Riders 3-0. Every single player contributed in some way to our successful weekend and definitely built a good team bond among these guys. We got some unfinished business and we look forward to putting this team out there again.

Although the results were not what we wanted the bond built over the weekend is what I will remember the most. Our 2nd tournament facing some tough 35+ competition. There were some times we showed we can hang but we were also thought a lesson that we have to work harder and make less mental mistakes to stay in games. We look forward to the next time we can participate in one of these again. Joined forces with some new players who came with us with a small crew from last years roster to build some new baseball friendships for years to come.
