CHOCTAW ALUM: This year’s MLB All-Star Game will feature a point of pride for Fort Walton Beach.

Bryan Baker, a former Choctaw baseball player and Tampa Bay Rays relief pitcher, was named to the American League All-Star roster and will participate in the game July 14 at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.

Baker has deep roots in the area. He was born and raised in Fort Walton Beach and attended Choctawhatchee High School, Class of 2013. He played both basketball and baseball for the Indians, developing into the team’s staff ace, with his best year at Choctaw coming during his senior season in 2013.

Baker was drafted in the 40th round of the 2013 MLB draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates but chose not to sign, instead opting to play college baseball at the University of North Florida.

In July 2025, Baker was traded to the Rays, and this season he is in the midst of a breakout year as Tampa Bay’s closer.

Bryan has had an incredible season with the Tampa Bay Rays, currently ranking second in Major League Baseball in saves. His dedication, perseverance, and outstanding performance have earned him a well-deserved spot among baseball's best.
We are incredibly proud to call Bryan a Choctawhatchee alumnus and are excited to watch him represent the Rays and our community in the MLB All-Star Game.

The best of the best: 2026 area baseball awards The local baseball season was one to remember, headlined by South Walton's first state title and deep playoff runs from Choctaw and Niceville.

BASEBALL UPDATE! Today’s Regional Finals baseball game has been postponed due to expected weather conditions. The game has been rescheduled for tomorrow at 1:00 pm.

CHOCTAW WINS: The Choctaw Indians' historic season will continue after a hard-fought three-game regional series win over St. Augustine.

After dropping Game 1 at home 3-2, the Indians stormed back with a 9-4 win in Game 2 and a 4-1 win in Game 3 to punch their ticket to the Elite 8 in the 2026 FHSAA Baseball State Championships.

Series highlights:

👉Maddox Gentry delivered a complete-game gem in Game 3 in his first start of the season — five hits, seven Ks, one run.
👉Jordan Figueroa broke Game 3 open with a two-run homer in the third.
👉Parker Powell stranded all three inherited runners in Game 2 with the bases loaded, striking out the three-hole hitter to escape the jam.

Choctaw will host the winner of Clay-Escambia in the Elite 8.

“Back here again. Back home again. We’re fired up to get the home crowd in here,” Head Coach David Weber said.

ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: In 2016, a young Blake Peters rode piggyback on Myles Betts as Choctaw celebrated a district championship. Ten years and 10 innings later, Betts was back at Choctaw to watch Peters and his teammates clutch a district title of their own.

For a senior whose family has been stitched into Choctaw for decades, it was the kind of moment you can't script.

Peters grew up right behind the school. His dad, Jeff, was a football star there. His mom, Heather, went there. His brother, Brady, played there. His sister, Brooklyn, teaches there now.

"Bloodline's a big thing," Peters said. "I bleed green from head to toe."

Last week, Peters launched the first home run of his career in Choctaw's 9-0 Sweet 16 win over Baker County, going 3-for-3 with three RBIs. The week prior, he scored the winning run in the Indians' 9-8 extra-innings district title win over Escambia, despite playing through a quad injury most of the season.

"He's no doubt a 100 percent kind of guy," head coach David Weber said. "He'd run through a brick wall for the program."

Off the field, Peters carries the same all-in approach. He’s a National Honor Society member, part of Link Crew, a Choctaw spirit boy this year, and at church every Sunday with his grandparents. He plans to attend the University of West Florida in the fall to study construction management, a path that started with his Uncle Greg Rynearson’s construction class at Pryor Middle School and stuck.
