If you work your tail off the whole offseason to get faster, stronger and more powerful, then get into the season and stop training, you’re going to lose what you built.
Speed can start to drop in about 7 days, power around 14 days and strength around 30 days if those qualities aren’t being trained. This is why you see athletes lose velocity, speed, power and bat speed over the course of a season. They stop training those high neurological qualities at a high intensity.
At ISP, our in-season training is 1–2 days a week and usually around 45 minutes. We top off on speed, top off on power and hit about 2 sets of everything in the weight room. Enough to maintain what you built without making you overly fatigued or sore. And a lot of the time, our athletes don’t just maintain. They PR their speed, power and strength movements during the season. You worked too hard all offseason to just give it back once the season starts.
