Keep it up! This weekend’s rodeo was held in Waxahachie. This is going to be a great season- several of our kids are sitting in the Top 15 in their events so far for the season. Many more rodeos to go- let’s keep them going!

It’s Not Your Farrier’s Job to Train Your Horse..

Your farrier’s job is to trim and shoe your horse, not teach him how to stand still and behave while it’s being done.

That foundation starts at home, long before the farrier ever picks up a foot.

Part of good horsemanship is teaching your horse to stand quietly, give to pressure, pick up all four feet, and hold them without leaning, pulling away, pawing, or trying to walk off.

That takes patience, consistency, and time. You don’t get it by waiting for the farrier to show up every six weeks.

A good farrier may help reinforce good manners, but he shouldn’t have to fight your horse just to do his job.

Do your homework between shoeings. Teach your horse to stand, build his confidence, and make handling his feet a normal part of life.

Remember, a horse that stands quietly for the farrier wasn’t made that way in one afternoon. It comes from the foundation you put into him every day.

Respect your farrier’s time, protect his safety, and take responsibility for the horse you bring to him.

Remember: “Your farrier is there to shoe your horse, not finish the training you never started.” 🐴

**Part of my job at the Idaho Horseshoeing School is to jump in and help students trim or shoe horses when there are a lot of client horses coming in that day. 😁 And yes, I should have my steel-toed boots on….😬
