ALL FOR ARTISTS: Design the Look of Cowtown's 50th Anniversary

In February 2028, Cowtown Marathon turns 50.

For half a century, this race has carried Fort Worth through its streets, stockyards, and along the Trinity River β€” a legacy of community, movement, and generations of runners who grew up watching race weekend take over downtown.

We're looking for a DFW metro / Texas artist to design the visual identity for this milestone year β€” a theme that will anchor everything from merchandise and signage to a city-wide celebration leading up to race weekend.

This isn't just a t-shirt commission. It's a chance to put a local artist's voice at the center of one of Fort Worth's most visible annual traditions β€” seen by:
πŸƒ 30,000 runners
πŸ™Œ 4,000 volunteers
πŸ‘ 60,000 spectators

The winning design launches a year-long countdown to 2028, showing up across:
✨ A social run series at Fort Worth's most iconic landmarks
✨ "50 Years, 50 Stories" β€” a community storytelling campaign
✨ A fundraising push for youth fitness through the Cowtown Annual Legacy Fund (C.A.L.F.)

πŸ“ Local artists, this one's for you. Details & how to apply: Email us at [email protected]

We all have one. πŸ˜‚
The friend who texts "you up for a run?" at 6am. The one who signs you up for a race before you've agreed to it. The one who makes the miles feel shorter just by being there.

Let's see how many Cowtown running duos we've got out there. πŸ‘‡

Running Doesn't Just Add Miles. It Adds Years.
September is Healthy Aging Month, and we've got a favorite topic on the subject: running. πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ’™

Research consistently links regular physical activity with a lower risk of heart disease, stronger bone density, better cognitive function, and yes β€” a longer life expectancy. But it's not just about the years you add. It's about the life in those years: more energy, more independence, more mornings you actually feel like getting up and moving.

Whether you're running your first mile or your forty-ninth Cowtown, every step is an investment in the years ahead.

What's one way running has changed how you feel day to day? Tell us below. πŸ‘‡

Step up and lead the pack. πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ

We're seeking Chairpersons for the 2027 Cowtown Marathon β€” community leaders ready to guide key operational areas like course operations, water stations, volunteer coordination, packet pickup, and start/finish line management.

As a Chairperson, you'll lead volunteer teams, coordinate race-day logistics, and serve as the vital link between staff and volunteers β€” all while helping deliver a safe, unforgettable experience for thousands of runners.

βœ… Role-specific training & planning support
βœ… Leadership development & networking
βœ… Deep involvement in a Fort Worth tradition since 1979

If you've volunteered with Cowtown before and you're ready to lead, we want you on our team.

Irma Allen: Bringing Joy, One Pair of Shoes at a Time
Irma Allen ran The Cowtown many times before joining the team as a volunteer in 2023, shortly after her retirement. She initially signed up to deliver shoes to a couple of schools. She enjoyed it so much she soon began volunteering every day.
For the past three years, Irma has helped fit new running shoes at every school we serve. She brings energy and enthusiasm to every visit, making each child feel special. She always answers the call when help is needed, volunteering with C.A.L.F. Run Camp, packet pickup, race setup and so much more. And through it all, she never misses a training run!

What drives you to go to every school?
β€œOh my gosh, the most memorable moments come from the kids,” Irma says.
She loves hearing comments like, β€œIt feels so good to finally have shoes that fit!” and β€œMy mom will be so happy she doesn't have to buy these shoes.”
The best moment, however, is seeing the look on a child's face when they ask, β€œCan I keep these?” and Irma gets to answer, β€œYES!”
β€œI love to see the kids’ faces light up as they tell me how many times they have run The Cowtown and how fast they are going to finish.”

What keeps you coming back to volunteer?
β€œKnowing I helped bring joy to these kids.”

For Irma, every school visit is about much more than fitting a pair of shoes. It’s about giving children confidence, creating happy memories and helping them feel seen and special. Her enthusiasm and dedication make her an invaluable part of The Cowtown family.

"Six months until Cowtown 2027. Are you registered? If not β€” what are you waiting for?"

Now in its 49th year, Cowtown offers a great cultural route, a friendly destination city, and energetic spectators β€” and your registration gives back. Since 2009, that mission has reached beyond race day into the schoolyards of North Texas, providing more than 5,000 pairs of new running shoes and basic fitness training to youth in underserved communities every year. The goal: instill a lifelong love for being active and the confidence to finish strong, no matter what you do.
