Think you need to spend 5–6 days a week in the gym to make progress?

You don’t.

Two well-designed 45-minute workouts can absolutely produce results.

This was one of the questions I answered in the August AskCoachPat Q&A.

The full replay is now available at AskCoachPat.com.

We also talked about lifting heavy after 50, weighted vests, Zone 2 cardio, cold plunges, partial reps and more.

POOR NUTRITION ≠ LAZINESS

Eating healthy isn’t as simple as “make better choices.”

Knowledge matters. Time matters. Money matters.

It’s easy to look at someone’s choices and assume they don’t care or aren’t trying. Sometimes we have no idea what obstacles they’re working around.

We can encourage people to make healthier choices without judging the person making them.

Have a fitness, nutrition or training question you’d like me to answer?

What if the scale hasn’t moved…but you’re actually getting smaller?

This is why I don’t like judging progress by body weight alone.

If you’re getting stronger and building muscle while maintaining roughly the same weight, your body composition may be changing even though the scale isn’t.

Pay attention to how your clothes fit, your measurements, how you look and — most importantly — what your body can do.

Have you ever had the scale stay the same while your clothes started fitting differently?

The scale isn’t always telling you the whole story.

If you’re training consistently, getting stronger and building muscle—but your body weight isn’t changing—that doesn’t mean nothing is happening.

You may actually be getting smaller at the same weight.

That’s why I don’t like using the scale as your only measure of progress.

💪 Getting stronger?
👖 Clothes fitting differently?
📏 Measurements changing?

Those count too.

If your teenager is going to lift weights, teach them correctly from the beginning.

I’m absolutely in favor of teenagers strength training.

But one of the biggest advantages we can give a young athlete is teaching good movement and lifting habits before bad ones develop.

As I say in this clip, sometimes I’d rather work with someone who’s never lifted before than try to undo years of bad habits.

Parents—does your teenager have someone actually teaching them how to lift?

BORED ≠ PLATEAU

One of the biggest mistakes people make is changing workouts too soon.

Just because you’re bored doesn’t mean your body has stopped improving.

Sometimes the best thing you can do is master what you’re already doing.

💬 How often do you change your workout routine?
