Samantha's journey began as a junior golfer competing in the Kathy Whitworth Invitational. She went on to pursue professional golf, joining the Epson Tour in 2018 and receiving support through the Kathy Whitworth 88 (KW88) program. Now, after years of hard work and determination, she's earned her way back to the LPGA Tour for the 2027 season!

Kathy & the Solheim Cup: A Legacy That Keeps Growing 🇺🇸💜💚

Thirty-six years after Kathy Whitworth captained the very first U.S. Solheim Cup Team, her connection to the event could still be seen throughout Team USA at the 2026 Solheim Cup in the Netherlands.

🇺🇸 Angela Stanford, a close friend of Kathy's, served as U.S. Captain.
⛳ Former KWI Champion Nelly Korda represented Team USA.
⛳ Alison Lee, the 2010 KWI Champion and a member of Kathy's 2013 U.S. PING Junior Solheim Cup Team, represented Team USA — and finished an incredible week undefeated at 4-0-0.

And alongside Angela as assistant captains were two more former Kathy Whitworth Invitational champions:

💜 Paula Creamer — 2004 KWI Champion
💚 Brittany Lang — 2002 KWI Champion

From Kathy leading the inaugural U.S. team in 1990, to mentoring junior players, to watching so many young women who came through the KWI go on to represent their country at the highest level...

Kathy's influence on the Solheim Cup story didn't end with her captaincy. It continues through the generations of women she inspired.

And that is exactly the legacy we hope to continue.

Kathy & the Solheim Cup: Inspiring the Next Generation 💜

More than two decades after captaining the inaugural U.S. Solheim Cup Team, Kathy Whitworth returned to the captain’s role — this time to lead the next generation.

In 2013, Kathy captained the U.S. PING Junior Solheim Cup Team, bringing her leadership and experience to 12 of the country’s top junior golfers, including Alison Lee and Andrea Lee.

For Kathy, investing in young women was an important part of her legacy — something we continue to celebrate through the Kathy Whitworth Invitational today.

And the connection continues.

This year, four KWI alumni earned spots on the 2026 U.S. PING Junior Solheim Cup Team:

💜 KWI Champions Kelly Zhang & Lily Peng
💚 KWI alumni Honorine Ferry & Eliana Saga

From Kathy captaining junior golfers in 2013 to KWI players representing the United States in 2026, it’s pretty special to see that legacy continue.

The next generation is already carrying it forward.

Kathy & the Solheim Cup: Where It Began 🇺🇸

When the very first Solheim Cup was played in 1990, there was a familiar face leading Team USA: Kathy Whitworth.

Kathy was selected as the first U.S. captain for the inaugural matches at Lake Nona Golf & Country Club in Florida, leading a team that included some of the greatest names in women’s golf — Pat Bradley, Beth Daniel, Rosie Jones, Betsy King, Nancy Lopez, Dottie Mochrie and Patty Sheehan.

Team USA won that historic first Solheim Cup, 11½–4½.

Kathy was again selected to captain the Americans in 1992 in Scotland. Although a family emergency required her to return home during the event, her place in Solheim Cup history had already been firmly established.

From the very beginning, Kathy Whitworth was part of the story. 💜💚

🏌️‍♀️ The Kathy Whitworth Invitational is coming home.

After two wonderful years at The Lakes at Castle Hills while Mira Vista Country Club underwent a comprehensive renovation, we are excited to announce that the Kathy Whitworth Invitational will return to Mira Vista Country Club for the 2027 championship, March 14–16, 2027.

We are incredibly grateful to The Lakes at Castle Hills and their outstanding team for serving as such gracious hosts during this transition period. Their support ensured that the Invitational continued to provide a first-class championship experience for the next generation of young golfers.

🏆 From the Kathy Whitworth Invitational to the U.S. Women's Open.

Congratulations to 2014 Kathy Whitworth Invitational Champion Nelly Korda on capturing the 2026 U.S. Women's Open title and her fourth major championship.

Nelly's victory is a reminder of the incredible talent that has competed in the Kathy Whitworth Invitational throughout the years.

The KWI was well represented at Riviera Country Club, including:
• Nelly Korda – 2014 KWI Champion & 2026 U.S. Women's Open Champion
• Alison Lee – 2010 KWI Champion and final-round contender
• Brittany Lang – 2002 KWI Champion & 2016 U.S. Women's Open Champion
• Hailee Cooper – T12 at the 2016 KWI
• Gurleen Kaur – 2016 KWI participant
• Chloe Kovelesky – Multi-time KWI participant
• Asterisk Talley – Competed in the 2026 KWI and finished T22
• Zoe Cusack – Third-place finisher at the 2025 KWI and one of the championship's youngest competitors at age 17

Adding to the connection, Alison Lee was a member of the 2013 U.S. Junior Solheim Cup Team captained by Kathy Whitworth herself.

We are incredibly proud of these talented women and honored to have been a small part of their journey.
