Twelve years in business. Nine years in this location.
One of the greatest blessings along the way has been my landlord, Lesa. She’s been so much more than a landlord. From day one, she’s supported Franklin Personal Fitness, encouraged me through the ups and downs, and over the years, she’s become family.
Seeing her rocking a Peace, Power & Purpose Podcast shirt means more than she probably knows. It’s a reminder that the best businesses aren’t just built on hard work. They’re built on relationships and the people who believe in you.
Thank you, Lesa, for nine years of friendship, support, and always believing in me. I’m grateful for you.
The kettlebell swing is a hip hinge, not a shoulder exercise.
Power comes from your glutes, hips, and core, not your arms. The kettlebell is driven by explosive hip extension, not by muscling it up with your shoulders.
In this reel, I cover:
✔️ Proper setup and pickup
✔️ Correct kettlebell position
✔️ Explosive hip drive
✔️ Safe, efficient technique
Master the fundamentals. The power will follow.

Deadlifts have become the black sheep of the fitness world.
Somewhere along the way, people stopped learning how to hinge and simply started avoiding the movement altogether.
This single-leg kettlebell deadlift with cage support is a great variation for beginners, older adults, or anyone looking to improve balance, strengthen the posterior chain, and build confidence with proper deadlift mechanics.
In this variation, keep a soft bend in the front knee, hinge at the hips, and keep the kettlebell close to your body throughout the movement. When setting up, use both legs to lift the kettlebell into position before beginning your working reps.
Remember, the goal isn’t to lift the most weight. It’s to perform the movement correctly.
I’m Steve, owner of Franklin Personal Fitness, where I focus on teaching the details that make every exercise safer and more effective.
Always consult your physician before beginning any exercise program.
Some people get carried away with chasing numbers and how much weight they’re using. I like to focus on the details that make an exercise more efficient for building muscle.
On the single leg extension, keep your toes pulled back toward your shin (dorsiflexed). This helps keep the emphasis on your quadriceps instead of placing unnecessary stress on the patellar tendon.
Pointing your toes forward may increase stress around the front of the knee and reduce the quality of the quad contraction. A small adjustment in foot position can make a big difference in how the exercise feels and performs.
The goal isn’t just to move the weight. The goal is to make the target muscle do the work.
