We have reached the end of the regular season of the APC Summer Sweeper Series, and what a finale it was! Before the recap, I want to take a quick moment to thank some folks...
American Place Casino - Thank you for sponsoring the series and providing $50 in Free Play all season long for the Jackpot Shots and Spares for Dough. I had an utter blast calling those in the booth and using my sound effects!
Holz Motors - Thank you for providing EVERY SINGLE WINNER with the Championship bucket all season long, full of quality car care items! What an amazing thing to provide every single week!
Lanetalk - Thank you for providing the high quality live scoring system so that we can bring you all of the fun action this summer in real time on the Livestream!
To all of our booth guests - Thank you for coming on to discuss so many different topics and provide our audience with fun topics every single week!
To all of the bowlers - Thank you, thank you, thank you. Without your attendance, this doesn't work. We appreciate you spending your Wednesday evenings with us this year, even as we worked through remodeling shenanigans! We averaged over 47 bowlers per week! Thank you!
And of course, $2 Phil & Ten On The Deck Productions / Phil Brylow - This series has grown thanks to your ability to reach and entertain more people than we ever imagined. Each and every week is a blast, and we are looking forward to a very bright future, partnering with you and the Brew City Bowling Show to bring entertaining and fun bowling action to everyone. You also let me live a dream of mine, and that is sports commentating, and for that, I am grateful. A well deserved hat tip to you, my friend.
Ok, as for the bowling action this week, our top five was far from settled, and after some moving and shaking, it has been finalized! Bowlers were given the challenge this week of the 2026 USBC Championships Team pattern, and many found out how tricky they can be! We were joined in the booth by Chad Kloss to discuss his experiences at Nationals this year and all things bowling related as we approach the beginning of the season as Bowlers Headquarters is gearing up for a great one!
Qualifying was rough for many, but the cut number was a bit higher than anticipated, at 591 for the top-18. A few players in the hunt for the stepladder did not make the cut, and that came into play later. Moving though the top-9 and into the top-4 for the night were the following: Alejandro Gallegos , Domo Fortson , Emma Johnson , and Dartanion Sellers . Seriously, go back and watch this finals replay on the $2 Phil page. So entertaining! We had Domo throw a gutter on his first ball and cover the spare THREE TIMES! Dartanion trying to leave the striped pin for free play at the casino, so many crazy things happening! Wouldn't ya know, the guy with three gutter balls was able to pull off the victory and claim his first ever APC SSS title, Domo Fortson! Well done my friend! Emma Johnson set the world record for 2nd place finishes, and Dartanion and Alejandro tied or third.
Ben Medina had enough points to hold off Dartanion and capture the #1 seed in our stepladder! Dartanion stayed right where he was as well, locking in the #2 seed. With that finals appearance, and the utilization of her double points night, Emma Johnson was able to get all the way to the #3 spot, with Layton Barlow hanging on to seed #4. That meant that because neither Ian Kloss or Steve Bequest earned any points, they were tied for 5th place, and we had to go to the tiebreaker list. The first tiebreaker is sweeper victories, of which they each had one. Then the next tiebreaker is season average with handicap. After going through and crunching the numbers, Ian Kloss won that tiebreaker, 217 to 212, and therefore moves on to be the #5 seed in our stepladder! We will be filming this as the first episode of the Brew City Bowling Show for this fall season, and you can come down and watch the action LIVE this Wednesday night, 9/2, at 6:30 PM! We will have a Facebook event out with all the details very soon.
Our scratch division's top five were as follows:
1st place - Ben Medina
2nd place - Jayden Kenney
3rd place - Ian Kloss
4th place - Steve Bequest
5th place - Steve Bulanda
Our senior division's top five were as follows:
1st place - Robert Kenney
2nd place - Steve Bequest
3rd place - Chris Hoffmann
4th place - John Halaska
5th place - Lori Grisanti Exner
Who will win this year's Summer Sweeper finale? You can find out live on Wednesday or catch the action on the Brew City Bowling Show on My24 on Sunday mornings this fall!
Congratulations to all of our winners this season, and good luck to the top-5! We have some more big and exciting plans for next summer, and we can't wait to do this all again! π
