Week #3 of the American Place Casino Summer Sweeper series is in the books, and my oh my, what an event it was! We had 48 bowlers in attendance, bowling on the 2026 USBC Queens pattern, and we welcomed Amber Gehrke into the booth with $2 Phil & Ten On The Deck Productions to give our audience her insight into her successful Queens experiences, women's bowling, great stories, and much more!
This pattern proved to be difficult for many, which a 38-foot, 30 mL, less than 2:1 pattern tends to do! In what was our most difficult pattern to date for the summer, the bowlers battled their way to a cut number of 589 for the top-18. In order to get to that cut, we needed a one-ball roll-off to break a tie between Tim Lambert and David Brandt, with Tim being the winner and moving on! That would not be the only one-ball roll-off drama of the night, however, as the cut to the top-9 featured one as well! Layton Barlow was able to win that tie breaker over Carla Centeno to move along in the tournament. After a top-9 that saw bowlers #3 through #9 separated by just 26 pins total, we had our final four of the evening: Riley Champion, Ian Kloss, Steve Bequest, and Lori Exner, who was making her APCSSS debut!
That's when the real drama started.
Ian and Steve both came out of the gates strong, but Lori continued to mark and stay in the hunt, while Riley struggled early and then found his groove. The match remained very close into the final frame. Riley finished with a 211 after handicap, just a few sticks out of the lead. Steve had a turkey going into the 10th frame, and appeared to be in the driver's seat, when he left a 3-6-10 on his first ball, and on the spare, sent the 3 into the 6, and around the 10 for a 7-2 open in the frame, giving him a 216 game after handicap. That gave Ian the opportunity to step up after an open in the 9th to get two fills in the tenth for a victory. His first shot swished the pocket and knocked all ten down. The nerves kicked in and he missed wide right on his next shot into the gutter, but could still win with a spare. He stepped up, put it in the pocket, but the 10-pin stood, and we had a tie! So we went to our THIRD one-ball roll-off of the night! Steve's shot was light and left a 2-5 combination for an 8-count, meaning Ian needed 9 or better for the title. Ian's shot missed inside and crossed over, but the 6-9-10 stood for a 7-count, giving Steve Bequest his first sweeper title! WOW!! WHAT A FINISH! Riley finished in 3rd place and Lori grabbed 4th in her debut in the series. The youth bowlers in the finals got an additional $10 to their SMART accounts in lieu of the Jack Daniels cases. Great bowling everyone!
Our main event has a clear cut leader and a large pack behind looking to catch up in the coming weeks:
10 points - Steve Bequest
5 points (3-way tie) - Jayden Kenney, Nate VanDerBeek, and Todd Drouillard
4 points - 7 bowlers tied
The scratch division is very close right now with a long way to go, but a familiar face on top:
127 points - Steve Bequest
126 points - Leo Voss
123 points - Ben Medina
116 points - Mitch Zierer
114 points - Jack Dysland
The senior division has some guy named Steve leading the way as well, albeit a tie this time:
36 points (tie) - Steve Bequest and Jim Ellenberger
27 points (tie) - Chris Hoffmann and Michael James Hungelmann
22 points (tie) - John Halaska and Scott Wilterdink
What a week. We can't wait for the next sweeper, where we will be previewing the pattern for our Bakerz Dozen trios tournament at Country Lanes, which kicks off in just one week!

The first squad of this summer-long tournament is quickly approaching on Friday, June 5th!
Be sure to get your sign ups in today to guarantee your spot!
A few quick frequently asked question answers for those that have asked:
1. What is the pattern? We will be releasing the pattern for this tournament very soon (hint - you can bowl on it during next week's sweeper). It will not be house, but it will be a shot that is very hittable from many different areas.
2. Do I need to bowl every week? No, this is not structured like our Summer Sweeper Series. The Bakerz Dozen trios tournament is a summer-long tournament with squads almost every Friday evening. Your scores will be ranked amongst all entries and the highest scores at the end of the summer will be paid out. Very similar to something like the MA-USBC tournaments during the regular bowling season.
3. Can I bowl multiple times? Yes, you can bowl multiple times, however your team must change by at least one bowler. The same trios team may not bowl the tournament twice.
Thank you for all the inquiries and sign ups so far! If you are interested in taking a squad and filling it, please let us know ASAP!

Week #2 of the American Place Casino Summer Sweeper Series is in the books, and it was another fun and well-attended event, as 50 bowlers came out to take their swings on the USBC Blue pattern, as chosen by our guest in the booth, Nick Wetzel !
Qualifying this week was a bit of a rollercoaster, as the bowlers were looking to adjust to a rapidly changing pattern. With only 21 mLs on the lane for this pattern, finding the oil and the down lane friction were key as it transitioned, leaving many bowlers with a game that was sub par. But those that were able to get their score to 644 or above made the first cut to the top-18, and then the strikes started pouring in! After cuts to the top-9 and then the top-4, our finalists for the night were Steve Bequest, Carson Kenney, Mitch Ortlieb, and Todd Drouillard. It was clear from the beginning that this match belonged to Todd, as he was able to navigate spares in the first two frames, then put the pedal to the medal and struck his way to a 248 game and the title in week #2, congratulations Todd! Carson and Mitch toed for second place, and Steve captured 4th this week. Congrats guys!
Our main event standings are just starting to heat up, as bowlers chase the GUARANTEED $1000 prize for first place!

3rd place - 84 points - Billy Felde
4th place - 83 points - Mitch Zierer
5th place (tie) - 80 points - Scott Mcdougal and Scott Pergande
The senior division is off and running as well!
1st place - 20 points - Steve Bequest
2nd place - 19 points - Chris Hoffmann
3rd place - 17 points - Michael James Hungelmann
4th place (tie) - 15 points - Billy Felde and Scott McDougal
Don't forget to message us to save your spot each week for your shot at all the cash prizes and fun! Our top four earned cases of Yuengling (except Carson, who earned an extra $10 scholarship money instead) and we had several winners of $50 free play certificates for American Place Casino as well! π³π₯ Honor Board Tourney recap! π₯π³
Every year at Country Lanes, we host the honor board tournament, which is a free entry tournament for anyone who bowls league at Country Lanes and made it onto our honor board (700+ series for men, 600+ series for women, any 800, any 300). We supply a prize fund of over $1000 total for a men's and women's division, and crown a champion for each that gets their name on the trophy!
This year, we had a total of 49 bowlers enter the tournament, hoping for their shot at the title! The top-8 men had a cut number of 665 to make the match play, and the top-4 women needed 567 to make it through.
The men's bracket included some very exciting matches, including a very strong 257 game from Jeremy Groth in the semi-finals being beat by a 299 game from Nick Rosandich. The finals would have two good friends battling it out for the title, Dean Filtz vs. Nick Rosandich, where Nick was able to come away with the victory, 210-198. Congratulations Nick!
The women's bracket was very close throughout, with Kim Schroeder earning her spot in the finals against Noelle Wolter. The final score of 196-163 gave the victory to the now 2-time women's champion Noelle Wolter! Congratulations!
From all of us here at Country Lanes, we want to again extend our most sincere gratitude to our league bowlers who support us all year long and make Country Lanes a great place to bowl league! It is our pleasure to give back to you and bring our 25-26 fall season to an exciting finish.
There are MANY exciting updates coming this summer here at Country Lanes, so stay tuned for all the fun and excitement! π
