Super proud of our guy Johnny Blanco on winning newcomer of the year! John is a Humble, consistent player who can flat out ball with the glove and the bat. He makes hard plays look effortless and is always hustling his butt off. Couldn’t be more deserving congrats Johnny!

SEASON FINAL - (From Last Saturday)

Frederick Flying Dogs season ends via a 2-0 sweep in the best of 3 first round of the playoffs to the Cashtown Pirates.

Game 2:

Pirates defeat the Frederick Flying Dogs 7-0 on Saturday at Mount St. Mary's University thanks in part to five runs in the second inning.

The Cashtown Pirates were the first to get on the board in the first when an error scored one run.

They then scored five runs on six hits in the top of the second inning. Carson Kuhns singled, scoring one run, Zach Ketterman homered to right field, scoring two runs, Chris Schachle singled, scoring one run, and Ethan Ketterman grounded out, scoring one run.

Marshall Mott earned the win for Cashtown Pirates. The starting pitcher gave up zero hits and zero runs over three innings, striking out two and walking three. Nathan Kessler pitched four innings in relief for the Frederick Flying Dogs. The right-handed pitcher gave up four hits and one run while, striking out one and walking one. Hunter Zalewski took the loss for Frederick Flying Dogs. The righty went three innings, surrendering six runs (five earned) on seven hits, striking out one and walking three.

Kessler and Eric Turvin each collected one hit for South Penn Frederick Flying Dogs.

The Flying Dogs 2025 Season comes to an end and we look forward to next season. We appreciate each and everyone of our players for their time and dedication and also out competitors for a fun season. Also a massive thank you to the staff at Mount St Mary’s for allowing us to use them as our home base this season!

FINAL FROM PLAYOFF GAME 1 -

The Flying Dogs lose on a walk off hit to the Cashtown Pirates 8-7. The game was tied at seven in the bottom of the seventh when Marshall Mott singled, scoring one run.

Cashtown Pirates rallied for the victory despite trailing 7-3 through 6 innings.

The Flying Dogs got on the board in the top of the first inning after Augie Bennett grounded into a fielder's choice, Curt Moore doubled off the wall, and Dougie Simms singled to center field, each scoring one run.

Cashtown tied the game in the bottom of the first thanks to a home run to right field by Tyler Reinert, and a double by Chris Schachle.

The Flying Dogs regained the lead in the top of the fifth. Bennett doubled, scoring two runs, to give the Flying Dogs the upper hand, 5-3.

The pirates wouldn’t quit, and I’m the bottom of the seventh, scored five runs on four hits to win the game 8-7. The biggest blow in the inning was a double by Dylan Ed that drove in two.

Austin Kunkel earned the win for Cashtown Pirates. The pitcher surrendered one hit and zero runs over two innings, striking out none and walking none. Matt Hughes took the loss for the Flying Dogs. The reliever went two-thirds of an inning, giving up one run on three hits, striking out none and walking one. Ryan Shriver started on the hill for the Dogs. He gave up eight hits and seven runs over six innings, striking out three and walking five. Nate Holt started on the bump for Cashtown Pirates. The starter gave up six hits and seven runs (five earned) over five innings, striking out four and walking two.

Bennett drove the middle of the lineup, leading Frederick with two runs batted in. Ian Eberly and Simms each collected two hits for South Penn Frederick and Shriver and Moore added hits and RBIs.

The dogs are back in action for playoff game 2 Saturday at 5pm at Mount St Mary’s. We hope to see you there!

4-0 LOSS at Cashtown (rain shortened 5 innings)

2-6 LOSS at Brushtown

7-0 FORFEIT vs Cashtown

Dogs close out the regular season securing the 8 seed for the playoffs with a record of 13-16-1 and face the 1 seed Cashtown in a best of 3 series with game one tomorrow at 6pm in Cashtown.

FINAL FROM THIS EVENING:

Dogs drop series finale to the Hagerstown Braves 7-1.

The Hagerstown Braves got on the board in the top of the first inning after Cameron Bailey hit a sacrifice fly, Riley Jackson singled down the right field line, and Chanse Phillips grounded out, each scoring one run.

Hagerstown Braves extended their early lead with two runs in the top of the second thanks to RBI singles by Connor Rohm and Bailey.

A single by Ethan Ford extended the Hagerstown Braves lead to 6-0 in the top of the third inning.

John Blanco hit a solo home run to left field in the bottom of the third for the Flying Dogs.

Eric Turvin took the loss the Dogs. He went two innings, allowing six runs on four hits, striking out one and walking five. A combination of John Bergwall (2 IP 5Ks) / Toddie Stock (1 IP) / Matt Hughes (1 IP) and John Blanco (1 IP 2Ks) were used to close out thee game.

Kevin Kopas, Curt Moore, Dougie Simms, and Blanco each collected one hit for South Penn Frederick Flying Dogs. Blanco went 1-for-3 at the plate and led the team with one run batted in.

Next up for the Frederick Flying Dogs is a double header at the Cashtown Pirates Sunday starting at 1pm.

FINAL FROM SUNDAY DH: Dogs split a pair of one run decisions with Brushtown.

GAME ONE RECAP: 5-4 WIN 8 INNINGS

It came down to the wire on Sunday at Mount St. Mary's University, as Frederick Flying Dogs grabbed the victory in walk-off fashion, 5-4, over South Penn League Brushtown Bulldogs. The game was tied at four in the bottom of the eighth when Ryan Shriver hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Nate Kessler.

The Flying Dogs got on the board in the first inning after a Kevin Kopas sacrifice fly, scored one run.

In the top of the second inning, the Brushtown Bulldogs went back into the lead after Chris Cole singled to the left side of the infield, and Brady Dettinburn singled to center field, each scoring one run.

Frederick re-captured the lead, 3-2, in the bottom of the third after Dougie Simms singled down the right field line, and Kopas grounded into a double play, each scoring one run.

In the top of the fourth inning, Brushtown Bulldogs went back into the lead after Dettinburn tripled down the right field line, and Drake Hebron singled to center field, each scoring one run.

Brushtown Bulldogs committed an error, which helped Frederick tie the game at four in the bottom of the sixth. And set up the eventual extra frame win for the Dogs in the 8th.

Conor McCormick earned the win in relief for the Dogs. He surrendered two hits and zero runs over four and one-third innings, striking out five and walking three. Denver Ostrum took the loss for South Penn League Brushtown Bulldogs. The hurler went two-thirds of an inning, surrendering one run on two hits, striking out none and walking one. Hunter Zalewski started the game for the Flying Dogs. The righty surrendered five hits and four runs (zero earned) over three and two-thirds innings, striking out two and walking two.

Kopas, Simms, and Shriver each drove in one run for the Flying Dogs. John Blanco went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Frederick in hits. Nathan Kessler stole two bases. The Flying Dogs had patience at the plate, piling up six walks for the game. The Dogs stole five bases in the game.

GAME TWO: 7-6 LOSS

Despite a 4-run deficit in the sixth inning, The Frederick Flying Dogs almost came all the way back, eventually falling 7-6 to the Brushtown Bulldogs on Sunday at Mount St. Mary's University.

The Bulldogs opened the scoring in the first after Josh Rickrode doubled, scoring two runs.

The Dogs took the lead in the bottom of the fourth. Dougie Simms doubled, scoring two runs, to give the Flying Dogs the advantage, 3-2.

A double by Trent Giraffa gave Brushtown back the lead, 5-3, in the top of the fifth.

Andrew Olvera earned the win for South Penn League Brushtown Bulldogs. The pitcher allowed nine hits and six runs (five earned) over five and one-third innings, striking out none and walking three. Matt DeGirolamo took the tough luck loss for Frederick. Degirolamo went four and one-third innings, allowing five runs (four earned) on six hits, striking out one and walking two.

The Flying Dogs tallied nine hits in the game. Augie Bennett and Maikis De La Cruz each collected two hits. Conor McCormick went 1-for-1 at the plate and led the team with two runs batted in with a double.

The Frederick Flying Dogs will travel to Brushtown Bulldogs for their next game on Tuesday to compete the 3 game series. Game starts at 6pm.

FINAL FROM TUESDAY:

Dogs get a win outlasting the Rebels 6-4 to get above record above .500

The Frederick Flying Dogs got out to a 5-run lead in the fourth inning and held on for a 6-4 victory over the Mason Dixon Rebels.

The Flying Dogs were the first to get on the board in the first when Kevin Kopas singled, scoring one run.

The Dogs took the lead in the bottom of the third. Conor McCormick singled, scoring one run, to make it 2-1 Dogs.

Taylor Goodrich earned the win for Frederick. Goodrich allowed five hits and four runs over seven innings, striking out three and walking three. Galinugh took the loss for Mason Dixon Rebels. The starter went five innings, allowing six runs on eight hits, striking out six and walking two.

Kopas provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led the Flying Dogs with two runs batted in. Kopas went 2-for-3 on the day. Kopas and John Blanco were in sync in the lineup, as they each collected two hits. Blanco stole two bases.

The Flying Dogs welcome the Brushtown Bulldogs on Sunday for a double header. Game 1 starts at 1pm

FINAL FROM TODAYS DOUBLEHEADER: Dogs pick up two wins at Biglerville

GAME ONE:

Calvin Sichler smashed two home runs and drove in eight runs as the Dogs defeated Biglerville Black Sox 16-7. Sichler homered in the fourth and fifth innings.

The Flying Dogs came back to win despite trailing 7-1 in the third.

A sacrifice fly by Sichler put the Flying Dogs on the board in the top of the first.

Garrett Rosenberry lined into a double play, which helped Biglerville Black Sox tie the game at one in the bottom of the first.

Biglerville broke open the game in the bottom of the third, scoring six runs on two hits to take the lead, 7-1. The biggest blow in the inning was a double by Tyler Kime that drove in two.

Frederick had a quick response in the fourth, scoring nine runs on four hits to take the lead, 10-7. The biggest blows in the inning were a grand slam to left field by Sichler and a three run homer to right by Ian Eberly.

In his next at bat in the 5th, Sichler smoked a 3 run homer to left field.

The Flying Dogs added to their lead with home runs in the top of the seventh inning by John Blanco and Kevin Kopas.

Ryan Shriver earned the win for the Flying Dogs. Shriver allowed seven hits and seven runs (three earned) over six innings, striking out one and walking three. Dallas Gilbert took the loss for Biglerville Black Sox. The starting pitcher went three and two-thirds innings, giving up 10 runs (one earned) on five hits, striking out four and walking three. Matt Hughes pitched one inning of zero-run ball for Frederick in relief. The hurler gave up no hits, striking out none and walking none.

The Flying Dogs piled up 11 hits in the game. Kopas went 3-for-5 at the plate. Blanco collected two hits. Dougie Simms, Curt Moore, and Ryan Shriver also added hits.

GAME TWO:

Augie Bennett drove in four runs on two hits to lead the Flying Dogs past Biglerville Black Sox 13-2. Bennett hit a home run to left field in the second inning, scoring two runs, and singled in the second inning, scoring two.

The Dogs won thanks in part to eight runs in the second inning. Bennett homered to left field, scoring two runs, Nathan Kessler singled, scoring one run, John Blanco singled, scoring one run, Calvin Sichler hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, Curt Moore singled, scoring one run, and Bennett singled, scoring two runs.

Matt DeGirolamo earned the win on the bump. DeGirolamo allowed seven hits and two runs over four innings, striking out two and walking one. Matt Hughes collected the 3 inning save.

The Dogs l accumulated 16 hits in the game. Moore, Dougie Simms, and Blanco each roped three hits. Kopas, Sichler, Shriver, and Eberly also added hits.

The Dogs face the Mason Dixon Rebels on Tuesday for their next game at Mt St Mary’s at 6pm.

RECAP FROM LAST NIGHT:

John Blanco smashed three hits in three at bats, as the Flying Dogs defeated Biglerville Black Sox 7-4 on Tuesday at Frederick. Blanco singled in the third inning, doubled in the sixth inning, and singled in the fifth inning.

Biglerville Black Sox got on the board in the top of the first inning after Tyler Kime grounded into a double play, Pat Armor doubled to center field, and Noah Ayers singled to right field, each scoring one run.

The Flying Dogs tied the game in the bottom of the third thanks to a double by Kevin Kopas, and a single by Blanco.

A single by Aidan Hoffman gave Biglerville Black Sox the lead, 4-3, in the top of the fifth.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Dogs went back into the lead after Biglerville committed an error, Blanco doubled down the left field line, Conor McCormick hit a sacrifice fly, and Curt Moore singled down the left field line, each scoring one run.

Matt DeGirolamo earned the win for Frederick. The hurler gave up one hit and zero runs over one and one-third innings, striking out one and walking none. Taylor Goodrich began the game for Frederick. The right-handed pitcher gave up eight hits and four runs over four and two-thirds innings, striking out two and walking seven. Ryan Shriver collected the save closing out the final inning, striking out one.

The Flying Dogs piled up 10 hits in the game. Ian Eberly, Moore, and Nathan Kessler each collected multiple hits for Frederick.

The Dogs are back in action Sunday at Biglerville in a double header. First game starts at 1pm
