Something hurts, so you should probably skip your workout, right?
Not necessarily.
One of the biggest things we’ve learned over 19 years of personal training is that your body isn’t going to feel exactly the same every time you walk into the gym.
Knees get cranky. Shoulders get sore. Backs get tight. Sometimes you’re dealing with an injury or coming back from something that changes what you can comfortably do.
That’s why your workout at Straight Shot isn’t set in stone.
If something is bothering you, tell your coach. We can change an exercise, adjust the range of motion or load, change the setup, or train something completely different that day. We regularly work with members dealing with shoulder issues, preparing for joint replacements, returning to strength training after giving birth, and navigating all kinds of other limitations.
Of course, there are times when an injury needs medical attention or you’ve been given specific restrictions that we need to follow. But having something going on doesn’t automatically mean you need to stop strength training altogether.
As Coach John puts it, “If you can physically get here, we can train you.”
That’s a pretty good summary of how we approach training at Straight Shot. Get here, let your coach know what’s going on, and we’ll figure out the best way for you to train that day.
We went into a lot more detail about how we train around pain, injuries and physical limitations in our newest blog. We’ll drop the link in the comments if you want to read the full article.

A different workout every time isn’t a better workout.
There’s a big difference between exercising and training.
If the exercises, weights, reps, and goals are constantly changing, it becomes really difficult to know if you’re actually making progress.
That’s why repetition is intentional at Straight Shot.
We want you to see exercises again. We want you to know what you did last time. We want you to have an opportunity to add weight, perform another rep, improve your technique, increase your range of motion, or simply execute the movement better than you did before.
And we track it.
Your exercise history in our app gives you and your coach a record of what you’ve done so we can make informed decisions about what comes next.
That’s part of the Straight Shot Training System.
Your workouts aren’t random. They’re part of a plan designed to help you make measurable progress over time.
Because the goal isn’t to constantly give you something different.
The goal is to help you get better.

WELCOME TO THE CLUB! 💪
July brought another group of Straight Shot members into the 100 & 250 Clubs!
Congratulations to Tanya, Madhu, Renee, Marg, Paul, and Sai on reaching a huge milestone in their training!
Getting to 100 or 250 sessions means a lot of weeks of making time to train, showing up, and putting in the work. Life gets busy, schedules change, and some weeks are easier than others, but consistency over time is what adds up.
And that’s exactly what these milestones represent.
We’re incredibly proud of each of you, and we’re grateful you’ve chosen to make Straight Shot part of your journey. 💚
Keep showing up. There’s another Club waiting for you!

What an incredible four days.
Thank you to everyone who came out to our Superhero Strength Challenge at Warehouse Cinemas and gave it your best.
We watched kids, parents, friends, and families challenge themselves, encourage one another, and celebrate every win along the way. That was exactly what we hoped this event would be.
Being an Everyday Hero isn’t about having superpowers. It’s about having the courage to try, to keep going, and to discover what you’re capable of.
Thank you to everyone who participated, and thank you to Warehouse Cinemas Frederick for being such an amazing partner and helping us create something special for the Frederick community.
We’ll be announcing our Warehouse Cinemas Prize Pack winner soon!
Because you don’t need superpowers to be strong. 💚
PS. Shoutout to Aaron May for the amazing shots from the event!

🎉 Happy Birthday to Coach Bruce! 🎉
We can't say for sure that Bruce isn't Batman, but we've never seen the two of them in the same room together...
If you train with Bruce, you know he's one of the strongest people you'll ever meet. But what makes Bruce special isn't just how much weight he can lift. It's how consistently he uses that strength to lift up the people around him.
Bruce has an incredible ability to meet people where they are. Whether someone is working around an injury, navigating something personal that makes exercise more difficult, or simply isn't sure what they're capable of yet, Bruce finds a way to make training work for them. He adapts, problem-solves, and helps people keep moving forward while making sure they can still be part of everything we're doing here at Straight Shot.
And the way Bruce shows up for people extends far beyond his own clients. Mornings, late evenings, weekends, or jumping in to cover when someone needs him, Bruce is someone we can count on to show up. He's built an impressively large roster of clients who count on him week after week, and the work ethic and commitment he brings to Straight Shot set an incredible example for the rest of our coaching team.
And through all of it, he still manages to bring plenty of humor to the gym and keep the people around him laughing.
We're incredibly thankful for everything Bruce brings to Straight Shot and for how much he gives to the people who walk through our doors.
And because apparently Bruce doesn't take birthdays off, he's choosing to spend his birthday hanging out with all of you at the Superhero Strength Challenge tonight from 5 to 9pm at Warehouse Cinemas!
Come by, take on the challenge, and wish Coach Bruce a Happy Birthday. And if you happen to bring him an energy drink, we can pretty much guarantee he won't turn it down. 😂
Happy Birthday, Bruce! We're lucky to have you.
