May 4th, 2015 I remember being full of excitement, fear and having so much support as Barre East opened its doors for business.
As a small business owner I don’t think those feelings ever change. They might morph into something else but they are always there.
The excitement to open the doors, have your first customer, celebrate anniversaries and milestones. Watching your staff gain their footing and hearing clients thanking you and recommending your businesses full you will so much pride. These same things that can excite us can give us fear. We conquer these fears and celebrate because of the support we receive from clients, community, family and friends.
Opportunities present themselves throughout or lives. It’s what we do with them that make us who we are. Barre East was an opportunity for me to build not only a business but relationships, to trust myself and gain confidence to use in other areas of my life.
It’s with a heavy heat to announce that the time has come for me to step away from Barre East.
At this time Barre East will be closing November 25th.
Before the goodbyes start…
I wanted to say:
Thank you to the instructors you all have been the heart and soul of Barre East without you our community wouldn’t exist.
Thank you to the clients, your support has been overwhelming. So many of you have become close friends. We have all leaned on each other during hard times, celebrated successes and grown so much during our time together.
Finally thank you to all the small business owners and Downtown Frederick it’s been a true honor to be part of this great city. I wish you all the best for years to come.
Please send your questions to [email protected] or DM and I will get back to you.
Love ❤️
Megan

It's that time of year again where we all start making excuses to stop taking care of ourselves to be the superheroes for everyone else in our lives:
This 5-week BINGO - challenge comes with weekly goals to start setting intentions for "us" and to create a few good habits as we enter the crazy holiday season.
Week 1 - starts Monday October 9th - ends Sunday October 15th
This week the goals are simple:
Start getting our steps in - Aim of .5 a mile each day this week. (20 mins of walking should accomplish this)
Eat your fruits and vegetables - Week one eat 2 fruits or veggies a day
Stay hydrated - aim for those 8 cups of water a day. Try to drink a cup before you have your morning caffeine fix.
2 Non-Barre workouts a week - (see goal 1 get your steps in)
2 - (1 hr. blocks) digital detox, stop scrolling, streaming. Pick up a book, talk to your family and friends, do a puzzle...endless options
As you complete these weekly goals check them off the box for the week. Follow and your favorite instructors as they also complete these challenges to support this amazing community.

Loving Barre?
Moving is a non-negotiable for me. It helps me focus for the day, stay on track with my personal health goals and honestly makes me a much nicer human. 😂
I was hesitant to try out barre classes. Did I have the right body type? Was I coordinated enough? Would I really get a good workout with a low impact format? 🤷🏼♀️
I took the class and I was hooked. ♥️
-
Reasons I love barre and wanted to be the first to bring barre to Frederick 8 years ago:
1. The workouts are challenging but achievable.
2. They are never the same…you’re never bored because you don’t know what’s coming.
3. Barre focuses on total body movements that help to target what I perceive as problem areas
4. It’s is a workout for everyone. As an instructor I will give you modifications and talk about form.
5. It has improved my posture!
6. Core is engaged from the very beginning.
7. I can touch my toes. Barre has improved my flexibility which helps lead to less injuries.
I could go on about why I love barre but I want to hear from you. Why do you love barre? If you haven’t tried a class and are interested comment below interested and I’ll be in touch.

Barre and Balance Training
Balance is involved in every activity of daily life, including walking, bending over to tie your shoes, and going up and down the stairs. Balance training improves the skills necessary for these real-life movements and helps reduce your risk of injury. Balance is a trainable skill, like riding a bike, but consistency is important. The more you practice, the better your balance will be.
Benefits of Balance Training
Body awareness.
Reaction time and fall prevention.
Increased muscular strength and joint support.
Coordination.
Maximize your workouts.
How to Add Balance
The great thing about balance training is that you can practice almost anywhere and no equipment is needed for most exercises. Balancing exercises are great for any skill range, from beginner to advanced. You can adapt any balance exercise to make it harder by holding the pose longer, adding movement or balance equipment, closing your eyes (with caution), and letting go of support.
There are a variety of ways to add balance training into your existing exercise program or daily routine. Barre classes are a great way!
In our profile there is a link to a free barre classes that was recorded this morning. There are several series where we focus on balance and being able to move through movements engaging our core and thinking about our positioning.

Noelle is a certified yoga instructor as well. Her classes will incorporate the burn of barre and the zin of yoga! Try her out!!
• 2 Fun Facts about yourself?
• I stepped away from my corporate career two years ago and am enjoying the space to explore the next version of myself.
• I am a foodie and love to travel.
• What made you get into Barre?
• I started coming to Barre East regularly in 2017 looking for a low impact but rigorous strengthening and toning workout. I love the controlled movements that allow me to really focus on my form and isolate the muscles I’m working. It’s almost meditative for me!
• Why do you enjoy teaching Barre?
• Teaching keeps me accountable, helps me to build my “exercise” IQ, and share those benefits with others. I’m a firm believer in use it or lose it and helping others continue to use it is really purposeful for me. I’m looking forward to continuing to exercise with this amazing community and maybe working a little yoga flavor into my classes.
• What position do you love teaching the most?
• Releve, anything that requires balance, and bicep/tricep work because it makes me feel strong. And I love to incorporate stretches!!
• Favorite song?
• I’m an 80’s kinda gal so I love to mix in some classics with Pink or Rihanna. If it’s a song that has you singing and dancing around your kitchen it belongs in my playlist!

Meet Jessica
2 Fun Facts about yourself?
• I still hold a high school weightlifting record from 2006!
• I love to spend time with my family skiing in the winter and going to the pool and lake in the summer at our property at Snowshoe Mountain Resort in West Virginia.
What made you get into Barre?
• I have been teaching yoga since 2018 and was looking for something new to learn and teach. The right opportunity presented itself for me to attend a local BarreAbove training to become certified, so I took the training and have been teaching barre since January 2023.
Why do you enjoy teaching Barre?
• I love to make new playlists that get people moving and having FUN so they forget they’re even working out! This definitely helps when we get to the spicy segments 🌶️
What position do you love teaching the most?
• I love to use the barre in standing poses to really burn the legs and glutes! Add a ball or glider in, and that is my jam!
Favorite song?
• I have a new favorite song every week, so this week is No Bad Days by Macklemore. Love anything Miley, Britney

2 fun facts:
1. I love to cook and I’m always excited to try out new cuisines and techniques. I’d love to hear about your favorite recipes!
2. I love love being outside. I’ll use any excuse to spend as much time as I can getting fresh air… Barre in the park, anyone?
What made you get into barre?:
I’m a big yoga fan :) When I started with Barre East, I was looking for other forms of movement that were also low impact and strength-focused. My first class at Barre East was with Megan, and I was hooked! It was an amazing combo of low impact, high intensity, sweating and shaking! Her awesome (and exhausting) class, plus the incredible community, convinced me to stick around ;)
Why do you enjoy teaching barre?
The people of Barre East are incredible. They are so fun and supportive. Coming together on a daily/weekly basis to improve physical and mental health creates a really strong bond, and it shows here. Being a teacher at barre East involves showing up for your people and doing the hard work with them. It’s thrilling, tiring, and all around amazing!
What position do you love teaching most?:
Releve! Ie calf raises…I love feeling the burn and getting combos in with leg and glutes 😈
Favorite song:
Any song that makes me want to get up and DANCE! My current top two are Maneater by Nelly Furtado and Man! I Feel Like a Woman! by Shaina Twain. You’ll definitely hear them on my playlists in class! •
