First weekend of the Dojo takedown. Thanks to everyone who came and helped! More work to do next weekend!

It is with a heavy heart that I make the official announcement that we will be moving from this Dojo at the end of May. We have been in this location for 11 years, and have built it up from a literal empty box, to a Dojo that many of us look at as our second home. This Dojo has meant a lot to me, and I know it has meant a lot to many of you as well. But this is not the end!

We will be moving to a new location (4774 N. Blackstone), starting May 28th. We will be renting space from a dance studio and it will be our temporary home, until we can figure out a more permanent solution. The kids' classes will be unaffected by this change (same days, same times, just a new location), but the adult classes will temporarily be moved down to one day a week- Thursday evenings from 6-7:30pm. We will be adding more classes as time goes on, but I currently need the extra time to move things around (physically and emotionally).

Some of you have been with me since 2006 when we first built a mat in the garage of my house. Some of you when I took over Aikido of Fresno in 2011, making the move to our current location in 2014. If you’ve only known the Dojo in its current location- don’t worry, change can be scary- but this is simply another storm we will weather together. I appreciate you all very much. Thank you for being a part of this community!!

Aikido of Fresno has been in operation for over 30 years- having three different head instructors in that time. I am the latest of those instructors, running Aikido of Fresno for the last 14 years. I saw the Dojo through the end of a recession, a HUGE dojo move and rebuild, and a pandemic. We still haven't fully recovered from the losses we took during the pandemic, and I was recently notified that the land lord of the building we currently occupy is raising the rent yet again.

At our current enrollment, we won't be able to make this rent increase- so I face the very real possibility of closing Dojo. There are still a few months of wiggle room, but by the end of April a decision will be made.

So NOW is the time- if you or anyone you know has wanted to train at our dojo- join us this month- it will make a difference, and it might be your last chance to do so.
