Every now and then, we get some… unique warranty claims. This one came in with an email saying, ‘Ball cracked after light use, would like a replacement.’

After a little inspection, it was clear this ball had been through more than just league night. Turns out, the owner thought they could ‘draw out the oil’ by baking it in their home oven at 350°F for over an hour.

Pro tip: bowling balls aren’t casseroles. The heat caused the coverstock to expand, the core to shift, and eventually split the ball wide open like a cracked Easter egg.

I love creative problem solvers, but if your ball needs maintenance, leave the heavy lifting to your local pro shop — and keep it out of the kitchen.
