August 16 is National Airborne Day and even though this retired armored cavalryman spent the vast majority of his time with soldiers equipped with tanks or working in a lab or engineering center designing a future armored force, I think back about having jumped from a perfectly good aircraft eight times ... I wonder why anyone would do this willingly ... Then I smile and say to myself "Rangers lead the way -- all the way, and then some."

Last Saturday, this old RANGER had no problem striking a match and starting up a small fire. After all, it was August in Virginia and by nights end in a non-tactical environment all evidence pointed toward a very smoke filled & comfortable campsite.

Participated in my first National Jamboree and enjoyed being a part of a grand team of volunteers who brought a SCUBA experience to literally thousands of Scouts & Scouters in wild & wonderful West Virginia. Had the opportunity to visit our nation’s newest National Park too!
