Something special happened at Hot Sword Summer. (Ok. A lot of special things happened. But this was super special.) One of our coaches lost a match to one of his students. Glenn Best lost a rapier match during pools to Lana. This is the first time this has happened to Glenn. Congratulations Lana!!!!

'Hot Sword Summer' competition brings historical sword fighters to Alachua County The tournament featured Historical European Martial Arts, where fighters use historical literature to understand how weapons were used.

For the first time, we have sold out of Hot Sword Summer Tickets! In previous years, we always set the upper limit of tickets higher than we expected to get - at the upper limit of what we thought we could reasonably run with the space we have booked! This year, we hit that number - 120 tickets sold!

Tomorrow was supposed to be the last day to buy tickets anyway, but if you would like to be put on the waitlist for anyone who has to drop out, please email [email protected]

For those that saw our last post, we explained what a sticker match is. Tonight we had another student earn a sticker. Iain Burton won the sticker from Mike Roth fighting with Singlesticks. Congratulations Iain!!!

Our club has an amazing tradition. We have what we call Sticker Matches. Any student may challenge an instructor to a match. The match is treated like a tournament match. The instructor selects the weapon set. The instructor doesn’t hold back. If the student wins, they get a sticker and bragging rights. Today, Tyvan challenged Glenn. Tyvan came out ahead after a fantastic match.

With that in mind, we do have a small piece of business to attend to: Darkwood Armory has been removed as a sponsor from Hot Sword Summer and we will not be pursuing any future sponsorship from them. We strongly believe that the entire Historical Fencing community is at its best when it is a safe and inviting space for EVERYONE, and we will continue to strive towards that goal in not only our internal policies, but in who we choose to partner with.
