UFC on FOX, December 8, 2012 at Key Arena in Seattle, Washington. I was probably more nervous for this fight than any other fight I remember. I got beat up a lot in this training camp by my partners and I couldn’t seem to find success in anything I was doing. During the actual fight I grew more and more confident, rather than losing confidence, BECAUSE of my mistakes I made in the fight, due to the fact that I had made those mistakes 100’s of times already during camp leading up to the contest. talks on his ig page about how you need to be comfortable in the worse positions to be willing to take risks in the good positions. Against Swick who is very fast and waits for the proper position to unload a combo, I finally found the proper positioning on the feet to land a hard blow to drop Mike and get the ko. You hear a lot about position before submission in grappling but not a lot about that for striking even though it’s a fundamental detail that I preach about striking is that the actual strike is the easiest part of the attack, while positioning yourself to throw the strike (and not get hit by a return strike) is the hardest part to accomplish. Fine tuning the process of positioning yourself for a strike is more important than all of the combos and techniques. In sparring you see guys that will go to great lengths to get a strike off because there focus is on winning or hurting the opponent which is what makes it so hard to find guys to “flow spar”. Focusing on the positioning and NOT the actual striking during sparring is how you can get better and not take so many shots to the head 👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻

Example of high legging with inversion as a form of guard recovery. Not exactly as we've practiced, but we are still doing more ideal examples.
