Last night I was scrolling YT and stumbled onto a classic, Florida vs Alabama 1990 in Tuscaloosa.

I had forgotten that was Steve Spurrier’s first road game as the HBC/OBC, it was also the fist road win In the SEC since 1987. (Sheesh.)

Spurrier looked so young watching him.

I was only five years old, and I do not really remember the game itself.

What I remember is the feeling.

Fall Saturdays started meaning noise in the house.
Orange and blue on the TV.
Adults caring way more than I understood.
Learning players’ names before I understood the standings.

That was when Gator football quietly became part of life.

The backup running back Eric Rhett ran like he already knew what was coming.
Will White picked off three passes like the future belonged to Florida.
And that 70 yard strike from Shane Matthews to Ernie Mills felt bigger than just a touchdown.

Afterward Spurrier said whatever road curse Florida carried was wiped away right there.

He was right. That was not just a win. It was the beginning of an era.

Watching it now feels familiar.

New coach. New belief. Same program waiting to wake up.

The Summrall era has a winning feel to it so far. I’ve watched every press conference, every assistant coach speaks a certain way. Traut coming home to coach our OL. Bam with the linebackers.

It feels like the Gators are coming home.
