The Gakona Trifesta is a unique triathlon event located in the heart of the Copper River Basin. The race starts at the historic Gakona Lodge and Trapper’s Den where racers will bike to the infamous Gulkana River. Racers will paddle downriver in whatever flotation device they like until the river crosses the Richardson Highway, where racers exit their watercraft and head back to the lodge on foot. This race has spectacular views of the largest national park, Wrangell St. Elias, and intertwines with three scenic rivers. The registration fees for the race help to support Copper River Watershed Project, a non-profit that works hard to keep the watershed happy and healthy. More details about the 4th annual race July 13th, 2024, will be available soon.
