The “locals” in Colorado Springs didn’t seem to mind us tourist too much 🤣

The view from part of the class 3/4 rock scramble up St. Peter’s Dome.

If you look closely you can see ropes installed by fellow hikers that came before us. At the time they were in good enough shape to utilize but always test gear like that before committing to the scramble.

Last thing you want is your scramble turning into a head first tumble down the mounting 😬

The view from the top of St. Peter’s Dome 🤩

This is a short but challenging hike. The beginning is relatively easy with a gradual incline to a class 3/4 scramble.

If you make it to the top you’ll be rewarded with a beautiful 360° view of the surrounding mountains and smoke dependent clear view of Colorado Springs.

One of the many mts burning earlier in the year from the Aspen fire just south of Colorado Springs. If you look closely you can actually see the plume of smoke still kicking up from the fire.

Remember smart fire practices and always douse and stir your camp fires before leaving.

Palo Duro Canyon in all its glory!

For those wishing to visit the Grand Canyon of Texas be prepared for extreme heat and humidity. Bring plenty of water and sunscreen.

When we visited there was a sign at the entrance explaining how quickly you can get sunburnt without sunscreen at different UV indexes. On that day the UV was an extreme 11 and the sign explained you will burn within 6 minutes of sun exposure.

Enjoy the outdoors but always do research before hand and be prepared for extreme weather no matter where you go!

Cool little click beetle we found on the LST towards the end. I imagine the “face” on its back is a defense mechanism to scare off would be predators.

The look you make when you arrive to the location you thought you could resupply your water and there’s nothing but sand, about 7 miles in.

As you can see it was bone dry. Though this was not ideal we had a feeling being midsummer in Texas this may happen. So we had the people that dropped us off leave a five gal jug of water at a cross section. So not the perfect scenario but no real danger, just had to ration water a bit longer till we got to our back up resupply.

The crazy part is they had several storms the days prior but just goes to show how dry the land can get their.
