It’s always exciting watching the Galveston Gymnastics boys represent our gym and our community at the State Championships!
With the dates for the 2027 Men’s State Championships now announced, we’re looking forward to another exciting season of competition!
We’re especially excited to see Conrad Finney back in action after taking a year off from competing. Making the jump from Level 5 to Level 8 is a HUGE undertaking, but he’s been putting in the work, and we’re confident he’s ready for the challenge!
Our Level 5 boys, Carson Finney, Manfredi Montalbano, and Holden Hooper, are another group we’re especially excited to watch this season. These three have already proven they can compete with some of the best young gymnasts in the state, and we believe they’re just getting started!
Carson Finney returns with an impressive track record, having earned the title of Men’s South State High Bar Champion in both 2024 and 2025! His previous State Championship accomplishments also include:
* 2nd Place All-Around
* 1st Place Rings
* 2nd Place Vault
Manfredi Montalbano is going to do BIG things this year. The raw athleticism of this kid is unreal. He’s strong, explosive, and has the kind of natural ability you just can’t teach. We have high expectations for him this season, but here’s the thing: his expectations are even higher. A 1st Place All-Around finish is absolutely within reach for this beast of an athlete, and we can’t wait to see him go after it!
His previous State Championship accomplishments include:
* 3rd Place Rings
* 4th Place Vault
Holden Hooper has taken his gymnastics to an entirely different level! The progress this kid has made is incredible, and his determination to keep improving is even more impressive. He’s developing the strength, technique, and confidence to become a serious competitor. Don’t sleep on this kid. We believe Holden is going to be a force in men’s gymnastics for years to come!
His previous State Championship accomplishments include:
* 3rd Place Pommel Horse
Together, these three Level 5 athletes are a talented trio with the potential to make some serious noise this season and help put the Galveston Gymnastics boys program on the map!
We’re also incredibly excited to welcome our incoming Level 3 boys to their very first competition season! There’s something special about watching young athletes step onto the competition floor for the first time. The excitement, the nerves, the confidence they build, and the pride that comes with seeing their hard work pay off. These boys represent the next generation of our program, and we can’t wait to watch them begin their competitive gymnastics journey!
And of course, we can’t talk about our boys program without recognizing one of the best in the business, Coach Andrew Sykes! Andrew’s knowledge of the sport, dedication to his athletes, and commitment to developing strong, confident young gymnasts are a huge part of what makes our program special. We’re incredibly fortunate to have someone with his passion, experience, and commitment leading our boys program.
At a time when several gymnastics programs have made the difficult decision to close their men’s teams, Galveston Gymnastics is moving in the opposite direction.
We’re steadily investing in our boys program, expanding opportunities, and building something we believe will have a lasting impact on men’s gymnastics in our community. We believe boys deserve the same opportunities to train, compete, and excel in this incredible sport, and we’re committed to making that happen right here on Galveston Island.
Building a competitive boys gymnastics program doesn’t happen overnight. It takes years of dedication, countless hours in the gym, quality coaching, and athletes who are willing to put in the work. From our youngest Level 3 competitors to our experienced Level 8 athletes, every boy plays a role in the future of this program.
