Snowy Mountains Academy of Arms

This week both classes were great fun. Both nights spent fair amount of time sparing so the students could practice their basic smallsword skills. So fun to watch tem all.

Our group was joined by three more students last night. Wow the Thursday night class is now up to eleven students. Was such a fun time working with both the experienced fencers and the novices. Our fencing fraternity is growing.

Tonight ended our fence free month. Had lots of interest and ended up with five new students. Two of our seasoned fencers have now started working on using the Spadroon. They are do a great job transitioning from their smallsword and are doing very well learning their cuts.

Wanted to let all my followers know that because of low turn out the Dueling Classes will be suspended until fall . Summer is always a challenging time to keep the classes going through Douglas County Parks and Recreation. However, I do plan on trying to keep the Thursday's instructional classes going depending on student turn out and sign up. Thanks to everyone for their continued interest in the program

Wanted to take a possible participation survey of our community for a possible tournament to be held in Gardnerville, NV, USA. I am trying to get more exposure for our sport, my school, and northern Nevada. The proposed disciplines for the tournament would smallsword, spadroon, and dueling. The smallsword and spadroon disciplines would be conducted in a 25 foot by 25 foot arena. The spadroon discipline would follow the broad sword rules. The dueling would be a one touch scoring on a piste. Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks for your time.

Now have our steel and synthetic spadroons plus sparing safety gear our smallsword fencers who wish to learn how to use the spadroons.

Had a great time at the Battle Born HEMA Tournament. Talked to several new potential students. Met and made a lot of new friends. Saw some great swordsmanship during the tournament. Also our spadroons from Castille Armoury arrived last week and I bought the safety gear for our spadroon instruction today. Looking forward to the classes starting back up the second week of June.

Wanted to let everyone know my recovery from pneumonia is going well. My 3rd X-ray showed my lungs are starting to clear up. I've been told that I can now start some of my activities again. Hopefully that means that in the next couple of weeks classes will start backup. Also wanted to let everybody know we have now some new equipment for the school. We have four synthetics spadroons for our study of the spadroon. Hopefully next week our four practical spadroons will arrive to compliment the four synthetic spadroons. Finally I wanted to remind everyone of the Carson City Battle Born HEMA Tournament at Fuji Park in Carson City happening over memorial day weekend. The Tournament is being put on by Noble Science Academy of Reno. We will have a table there to show case our school. So come by and say hello and come watch some great swordsmanship.

Sorry I haven't posted anything for a while. Came down with pneumonia. Hope to have the school open again in a couple of weeks.

Last night's Dueling Class was great. Observe a lot of great sword play. Tonight I'll see a great group of young smallsword fencers. Always a pleasure working with them.
