Do you want to hit the ball farther, straighter, and more consistent? Of course we do! Proper weight transfer is the most important swing fundamental to achieve all of these goals.

In the video on the left, the golfer does not pick up his right heel before the club impacts with the golf ball. This lack of weight transfer significantly effects the strike of the ball. Your heel should come off the ground slightly just prior to impact.

It is never too late to take a golf lesson! There is plenty of golf season remaining - why not start working on your golf swing this year so the next golf season is even better?

Do you live too far away from Treetops to travel for a golf lesson? Why not take a golf lesson virtually? You can email me a video of your golf swing - two views - facing you and from behind you looking down the target line. I will create an eight part swing sequence and let you know the great things about your swing and the things that you should correct for faster improvement.

Virtual lessons are only $39 (approx. one half of an in-person lesson).

Here is a great, easy drill to learn to draw the golf ball. Aim for the center golf ball which is in line with the flagstick. At impact, slightly turn your left wrist so that the back of your left hand is now facing the golf ball on the left. The ball will initially fly straight and then draw to the left.

It is never too late to take a golf lesson. Why not finish this golf season with some great golf shots and start building your golf swing for the next season.

More Ladies Golf Schools will be available in September. Dates to be determined soon! Here is a testimonial from a school that was just completed:

Thank you, Steve! Your team was exceptional! I learned so much and I’m anxious to get out on the golf course again! The handout is very helpful too. When I got home, I wrote out notes, but after looking at this handout I realized I was missing some things, so this is awesome!

Enjoy the rest of the summer and your team is truly amazing. The attention to detail, one-on-one coaching/training, and level of expertise was so beneficial for learning and continuing to improve my game.

All the best. I would love to return again next year for another golf school! Liz

Are you hitting very low golf shots that hook severely to the left (for a right handed golfer)? Always begin by reviewing your grip and setup position at address. In the photo on the left, both of the golfer's hands are gripping the club in a much too strong grip position. The golfer is also forward pressing the golf club too much. In a forward press, your left hand should be just slightly in front of the golf ball with your right hand even with the golf ball.

With the change in his grip and setup position after only a few minutes during a golf lesson, the golfer was hitting the golf ball much higher, straighter, and farther.

Amazing transformation! Notice the leaning follow through and loss of balance before her golf lessons. The 2nd photo on the right shows her now perfect follow through resulting in longer, straighter, and more consistent golf shots after a couple of lessons.

Would you like a detailed golf swing analysis - we offer virtual golf lessons. When you send a video of your golf swing from face on and from behind facing the target, along with a brief description of your ball flight or other challenges, we can improve your game virtually. This is a very low cost way to correct a slice or other swing issues.

Most golfers are afraid of bunker shots because they don’t SPLASH enough sand onto the green to get the ball out of the sand. I use an umbrella to teach this shot. I ask the student to splash a significant amount of sand on to the umbrella. When they hear the noise of the sand hitting the umbrellas the golf ball is out and on the green!

Watch this video from our Ladies Golf School to see how easy this works.

Learning to hit sand shots should be FUN! Getting the bunker ready for a day at the beach for our Ladies Golf School.

Your wrists play a very important part in your golf swing for distance, direction, and consistency. In the photo on the left - the golfer's arms and golf club are in a straight line which prevents the use of her wrists.

In the photo on the right - her arms hang natural, relaxed, and the golf club is out at a different angle. This makes it much easier to use your wrists during the backswing and forward swing.

Having a great time at the Ladies Golf School - June 6th-9th. Today's lessons: chip shots, pitch shots, and full-swing fundamentals such as weight transfer, balance, and proper follow through. After the morning lessons, the ladies participated in a nine hole "Play with the Pro Scramble".

Thank you ladies for a very successful Ladies Golf School 5/30-6/2/21. The golf school was a lot of fun and all of you had tremendous progress with your golf swings and the various golf shots that we covered to help you to enjoy your game even more. We look forward to seeing all of you again next year.

Did you know that your arms/elbows should remain connected with your upper body for approximately 2/3 of the swing? Note the disconnect in the photo on the left with the elbow pointing out. The photo on the right is a very good connected elbow on the backswing.

It is much easier to make a proper backswing if your left elbow (for a right handed golfer) is not pointing out at the ball when you are in the address position. Notice the photo on the left.

Your left elbow should be turned slightly in to help you to take the golf club back on the proper swing plane.

If you need help with your golf swing please don't hesitate to contact Steve Scheuermann, Director of Golf Instruction at 989-350-0533 or email [email protected]

Do you slice your driver? Most golfer do. One of the main reasons why is the path of the golf club is travelling in an out-to-in swing path. This, path cuts across the golf ball and creates a slice spin. Imagine that there are three golf balls in a row. Try to keep your driver on the same straight path through the first golf ball and extending through the other two imaginary golf balls.

What is your opinion on Virtual Golf Lessons? Is this going to be the future of golf instruction? The luxury of a virtual golf lesson of course, is that no matter where you live, very affordable golf swing tips can make a considerable difference in your game.

Golfers will send me a slow motion video of their golf swing - both from face on and from behind the swing facing the target. I use my experienced eye and golf swing analysis software to create an eight point swing sequence. Please see below. What a great teaching and learning tool. In an email back to the student, I will highlight what is correct and identify what needs to improve both by using this photo sequence and my written recommendations.

Did you know that with most golfers, improperly fit golf clubs will have a significant impact on improving your game or correcting poor shots? In fact, 50% of the blame for poor golf shots just might be that your clubs have the wrong specs for your swing.

I had golf lessons with two different students this week that both were playing with irons that were way too heavy - 105 gram steel shafts. This made it difficult to hit the ball straighter and longer, because their swing speed did not match the shaft weight. Clubs that are too light for your swing can also be detrimental. Both mass (weight) and inertia (speed) determine distance or lack of distance. One without matching the other will create shorter and off-line shots.

Please contact me if you would like to learn more. PGA Director of Instruction, Steve Scheuermann - email [email protected]

What is the fastest and best way to improve your golf swing? Use your lower body to hit the golf ball. Notice in the video that her right foot stays on the ground during the swing. After her golf lessons, she learned to pick up her right foot - transferring her weight to her left side. This not only improved her consistency, but she definitely hit the ball much farther.

Photos from Treetops Golf Academy's post 05/04/2021

What is the most important shot in golf? Chip shots - shots from within 10 feet of the green with nothing to go over. The proper setup - use an 8 iron - position the ball opposite your right foot (for a right handed golfer) - place most of your weight on your left foot - place your hands forward over your left knee. This is a short, no wrists swing. Land the ball within 3 feet of the edge of the green and let it roll like a putt.

Your goal - chip the ball into the hole. If not, leave no more than 2-3 feet left for your one putt!

Do you hit behind the ball in your golf swing? There are a few possible reasons why, but watch this video for one of the most common reasons for the golf club hitting an inch or two behind the ball.

Notice on the backswing that the weight has shifted to the outside of the right foot. This makes it almost impossible to push off and transfer the weight to the left foot at impact. Your weight should be on the inside of your right foot (for a right handed golfer) on the backswing. A slightly wider stance will help.

Also notice the trigger finger on the grip - see how the pointer finger of his right hand is separated from his other fingers. This means that he is trying to hit the ball by pushing with his right hand instead of pulling the club with his left hand. This too can cause a "fat" shot.
