🤝HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS INCLUDE RESPECT.
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month — an opportunity to remind our community that healthy relationships are built on respect, trust, communication, boundaries, and safety.
Learning what healthy relationships look like is part of prevention.
For young people especially, having trusted adults and supportive connections can make a meaningful difference.
No one should be in a situation with any partner or family member that includes physical violence, sexual abuse, insults, humiliation, or coercive control regarding their movements, their finances, their communications or other threats to their safety and well being.

💚 Respect is always a good place to start.

💚What is SHOW-SAFE and how do we support the dog sports community?
We are a nationwide nonprofit that promotes a safe dog sports environment where every person can thrive. We prevent and respond to abuse and misconduct through three key areas:
🛡️ Safety Support Services
We operate a direct safety net of services, including a 24/7 confidential helpline for anyone in the community that needs support, including clubs and individuals with safety questions. We also provide aftercare support to survivors of misconduct with resources that foster their long-term healing.
📚 Education
We deliver pragmatic, dog-sports-specific education that help juniors, parents, adults, and clubs recognize, prevent, and respond to harm—strengthening their ability to create the kind of community that everyone can safely enjoy year after year.
🤝 Advocacy & Awareness
We cultivate best practices, prevention, safety, and healthy relationships across the community through our visibility at shows, partnerships, events, policy work, online presence, and culture changing initiatives.

🎉 A NEW CHAPTER IN SHOW-SAFE LEADERSHIP!
Please join us in welcoming Brody Cavanaugh as SHOW-SAFE’s new Board Chair! A fourth-generation dog sports participant, Brody has been part of the SHOW-SAFE Board of Directors since the organization launched. His background and career in the social sciences have helped shape our education courses and safety support services. With a commitment to inclusion, good sportsmanship, and the well-being of every participant, Brody will help guide SHOW-SAFE into its next chapter.
We also want to extend our heartfelt thanks to Kiki Courtelis, SHOW-SAFE’s inaugural Chair, for her leadership in forming the organization and setting our mission in motion. We’re grateful that Kiki will continue serving on the board as Special Advisor to the Chair, sharing her experience and guidance with our leadership team.

Whether you're a junior learning to navigate the show world or an adult supporting someone else, knowing your boundaries and having people you can turn to are important parts of staying safe.
This Substance Use Prevention Month, we're encouraging our community to look out for one another, make thoughtful choices, and create an environment where asking for help is always okay.

💚 We need your support to keep showing up!
Behind every educational program, every conversation at our info table, every resource we provide, there's a story you don't get to hear.
We get calls to our helpline often. Sometimes it's a club rep looking for guidance on a safety situation. Sometimes it's a parent trying to understand this show world for the first time.
And all too often, it's someone in tears — living with fear or pain because of something that happened within our community. Sexual abuse. Grooming. Bullying. Physical abuse. Domestic violence. Elder abuse. We've been there 24/7 for real people facing every one of these and more.
Because of grassroots support from people like you, none of them had to navigate that moment alone.
We can't share identifying details — privacy always comes first. But we can share this: reaching out matters. Listening matters. Knowing where to turn matters.
This is why we educate.
This is why we encourage people to display our pins and branded items.
This is why we provide both prevention & response.
This is why we promote building healthy connections throughout the dog-show community.
And this is why your support matters. Every donation helps SHOW-SAFE continue providing education, resources, and support to the people who walk alongside you in this sport.
