Fisticuffs - Georgetown Getting anyone and everyone in shape using principles of general physical preparedness. Look strong,

Tabata rounds are one of the simplest and most effective forms of conditioning you can do.

-

This workout took less than 10 minutes. A 2 minute warm-up on the bike and then 8 rounds of 20 seconds of work, 10 seconds of rest.

-

If you're a busy Dad/Mom, business owner, work traveler, student or anyone else strapped for time, doing these types of intervals helps to eliminate the time crunch while simultaneously giving you some of the best conditioning you can get.

-

Not to say that doing Tabatas will make you better at everything, but this type of conditioning will have carry over to almost anything. If it's an, "easy" machine, it isn't made for Tabata. You've got to pick the hard stuff.

Gonna be a good day.

I basically grew up in a gym. I learned from magazines, books, older guys and the internet. I was exposed to lifters as well as fighters/grapplers at a relatively early age (about 16).

-

I noticed that many of the older lifters were strong, but beat up. Many times, they couldn't perform lifts like they wanted to simply because of too much mileage on the body.

-

The young fighters and grapplers had good conditioning, but often, they didn't see the point in spending time lifting...until that injury occured (you don't participate in those sports without getting dinged up from time to time).

-

It was through those lenses that my philosophy started to form. The weightroom is there for prehab. The weighroom is there for rehab. The weightroom is there to continue to build your physical prowess when all cylinders are firing. The weightroom is there to build your mental fortitude no matter the circumstances.

-

You can always move the needle forward. The gym will prove that to you if you allow it. Have a great day. Pay no mind to the distractions and keep moving forward.

About 2 and a half weeks ago, I twisted my knee a bit. Nothing new to anyone who has ever participated in a sport, outdoor activity or anyone has ever made a mis-step off a curb. The point is, when you get dinged up, don't panic and don't avoid strength training all together.

-

Seek whatever medical help you need, follow the proper protocols and then get back to whatever strength training your body will allow. Don't be a hero. Don't push faster than you're recovering...but, don't let the entire system get weak just because everything isn't perfect.

-

If squats aren't the move, pick something else. It's always better to modify (within reason and without causing additional pain/damage) than it is to skip.

-

Stay strong. Keep moving forward and don't let perfection get in the way of your next workout!

Lately, with numerous Sasquatch sightings in our area, the question must be asked... if you met one on a dark street, could you outrun it?

Are you 65+?

Do you need a gentler approach to strength training?
