These pictures show the progression a young shooter can make in a short time.
In the first he is still a little uncomfortable with the entire process, weight is on his back foot and he doesn't want to get his face near the stock. The second picture is maybe 10 minutes later on the very next stand and you see his posture is much better. He is making good moves to the target and focused on breaking the clay vs anticipating the recoil.
Having an instructor early on is especially helpful with new or younger shooters. Confirming eye dominance, helping with stance and teaching them to know where and how to break targets makes it a much more enjoyable experience.
Even with 20+ years of shooting experience I learned quite a lot by taking the Scholastic Clay Target Program certification course as well as the National Sporting Clays Association instructor's course.
It is very gratifying teaching shooters of all ages and skill levels, but I especially enjoy working with youth and lady shooters. I love hearing their reports as they advance with their skills and often start out shooting the folks that introduced them to clay shooting.
I am booking weekends and week days at Indian Creek Shooting Center ,The Sporting Club at the Farm , and Jefferson Gun Club
