Ever heard the phrase, "30 days makes a habit"? Did you know that this is not true for those with ADHD? Those with ADHD require more time and stronger strategies to establish lasting habits. Not only that, but one single day can fully derail well curated and tailored plans, even after years, making us feel like we can't maintain success.
What would it be like to accept that in yourself? To build the plan to shift as you grow and change? What would it be like to fully release the myth that you have to do it a certain way? To acknowledge that doing the same thing the same way over and over actually does not meet your brains chemical needs, and that you need to derail and restructure the plan regularly to even attempt to stay on track? What would it be like to view that derailment as growth, change, and progress instead of defeat?
Reflecting on your values and purpose regularly and allowing yourself to shift and change as needed, actually builds overall well-being and resilience. Taking time to understand what truly matters to you, and allowing that to change is science-backed self-care. Scientists have shown that, in those with ADHD, regular exposure to new experiences actually enhances dopamine sensitivity and improves motivation; thus doing one routine over and over the same way for a long period of time actually physically and mentally reduces your motivation to do that task. We are biologically wired to "shake things up", derail, and remake a plan regularly.
If you need help derailing and rebuilding your plan; or even just help to build the ability to accept that you are built differently, reach out. I can help you start from where you are at and build from there....and having ADHD myself, I also need a variety of challenges to keep my dopamine levels going, so bring forward wherever you are at, and I will meet your right there.
